    Smile Blow Mold Petition

This is a petition to bring back the blow molds. We want the blow molds that were discontinued by certain companies to be brought back. Even though, most blow mold companies went out of business, a couple are still there. We can ask them to bring back at least these two. Please click on the link and sign the petition.

There’s two ways to look at this. You don’t want them to make an exact copy because just like any collectable, the value will continue to increase for those that are no longer made.

They may not even have the original forms or the rights to make them. It might be better idea to ask them to make something similar.

Well, the patent has expired. The copyright is no longer there. General Foam is starting to make what Empire use to do. People are buying those two blow molds off of E-bay or any other website which sells them.

    Actually,

The patent has expired. It doesn't have to be the exact duplicate. How about this? The only thing that can be different is to make the scarf on both snowmen the same color has it is. Instead of it having those ridges, it can be very smoothly striped. How about that? Everything else can be the same. Another thing they can do in addition is put another button on the small snowman.

I would have imagined that particular patterns would be protected by copyright rather than patent (there may once have been some patent on the process used by all blowmolds, but that's probably long expired). Copyrights don't expire very quickly; for individual creators, it's their lifetime plus 75 years, IIRC.

So either the rights may need to be acquired, or a new pattern made which is similar but not so similar as to violate copyright. If the original copyright holder is now making zero money because the pattern is not being produced and the original company is out of the business, they might sell it rather cheaply, tho.
