Thread: Ren-C Alternative Part

    Question Ren-C Alternative Part

I'm getting together all the parts that I require to put together a couple of Ren-C boards.

The problem that I have is that Mouser want to charge me something cronic because I live in New Zealand.

A supplier that I have been using is FuturLec http://www.futurlec.com Their prices aren't quite as low, but once freight is put into consideration it works out cheaper for me.

I'm finding it difficult to track down this mouser part:
    595-SN65LBC179P - RS485 Receiver/Transmitter (DIP8)

Could somebody please be so kind as to help out by looking at the FuturLec website and advising what the alternative part would be? There are lots of RS485 receiver/transmitter ICs around so I want to make sure I get one with the correct pinout.

    Many, many thanks in advance.

75179 is a fairly close match (same pinout and function). It draws a lot more power, and doesn't work over the same temperature range as the 65LBC179. It should work in place of the specified part, though, as long as you are aware of these limitations.

you could try for samples from the manufacturer.

but i think from memory that futurlec has teh max485 as a part, might be worth checking for compatability

The MAX485 is not compatible with the Ren-C board, although the MAX490 is.
