Correct with the exception of the "DIY" part. This thing seems pretty darn complete as-is.

And the "only a little more than the FM-02" part...

to be fair - FM-02 + RDS Encoder + Case + Power supply - still more, but it might be interesting to compare the detailed specs as well - it might be a lot better radio as well.

True. The quoted post didn't mention the RDS accessories but to be an even comparison the figures would need to include all that.

Reporting in on my experience so far with this unit.

    Pros

    Installed and worked pretty easily.
Simple RDS solution for station name and "rotating" messages
    Pretty clean signal

    Cons

Directs all audio to "electronic speakers"/USB output. (headphone jack/pc speakers can not output simultaneously) *** see below for work around
No song RDS - need to develop vixen plugin to pass data.

Workaround #1 - keep radio near pc and broadcast line out from radion headphone jack rather than pc

Workaround #2 - found a neat little app that does the job, virtual audio cable. King of acts like a virtual patch cord between audio output devices

For consideration - apparently vast makes an alternate model that has a power input and line input in place of the USB model in the same form factor. See option 2 on their website. This might be a bit more practical/flexible.

Gonna keep playing with this unit Broadcasting tonight, will let you know what else I discover.

This is my first year doing a show, and took a risk on using this unit. I must say I am very impressed. Works great, audio is clean and it's out of the box ready to rock. As the previous person posted, you would need to use that virtual audio cable app to get local audio, or use a fm radio, but that's a small thing. Very pleased with this unit overall!

I received mine a couple of days ago. It came with a line in jack and the USB input. It works fine using either input.

Hmm. .wonder if you got a different model? Unless they did very recent design change, the 212r didn't have a analog input, only usb..

There are now two versions of this transmitter. one with the analog input and one without.

Vast has also completed an update to their software which will allow for RDS updates via sequencing software. It has not been released yet but should be soon.
