The Current firmware designates the E682 as E682-6 and shows 6 sockets for universes which means the device can handle up to 6 universes or 3060 (6*510) channels of DMX. Jim implied when he released the E682 that he thought he could boost that to 8 universes with future firmware upgrades. This screen shot shows the E682 as E682-12 and show 12 sockets for 12 universes and thus implies that Jim has figured a way for device to handle up to 12 universes or 6120 (12*510) DMX addresses. So one E682-12 could drive 16 string of 127 pixels in a large Mega Tree.

That might be due to the Unicast inclusion as well but either way, great news - even for us old E681 users... Time to get the upgrades I guess...

What about our E680 users? Will there be a firmware upgrade to enable unicast? Not so much interested in increasing universes on those puppies.

I have to say I'm really curious as to how Jim pulled this off. The underlying chip on the WIZ820io module (I believe that's what he's using) only supports 8 sockets. And it only supports SPI to get the data off and into the MCU.
