    Default Centralised Ehternet or DMX?

Of late I have been thinking of small pixel display items that use about a universe of channels. Ordinarily I would opt for DMX to Pixel bridge.
Is it time to go straight to an E1.31 Pixel bridge? the cost isn't expected to be too disimilar to a DMX Pixel bridge providing I include isolation.
    Any thoughts?

To clarify - do you mean an E1.31 Pixel bridge for a single universe? The only issue is that the Ethernet bit is proportionally the most expensive part and it seems a bit overkill for a single universe of pixels. You're running a single cable anyway - why not stick with an E1.31/DMX bridge to a DMX-Pixel bridge - with focus on the DMX-Pixel portion you could probably make this fairly cheap.

    Yes.
At $10 for a w5100 chip and rj45 inc magnetics the cost is not that much higher than isolate DMX port.

I already have DMX to pixel bridges.

OK - wasn't aware you were looking at the chip level (vs the module) - in that case then yeah, it would be a nice project.

It's what the J1Sys ECG-P2 is in many ways though it does have 2 ports and can handle 8 universes, but it is designed as a point of use type unit.

I think that as more new people pick up pixels from scratch then pure E1.31 may well be logical but even then for smaller items that use say up to 20-25 pixels the DMX pixel controllers still make logical sense.

It's still a case of picking the right controller that fit's the requirements of the installation.

This is not to disagree with assiephil but to supplement. Here there are several people running just Renard and not DMX. And for these people to move to pixels it would make sense to use just E1.31 and with RPMs bridge you could run your renards off the same cat5 run as the pixels. And even use wireless for the Ethernet run. Just some added thoughts for those reading along.

    Brian,
My bad for not thinking about renards. I have no use for them.
I already have 2x e1.31 to DMX pixel bridges and will stay that way for a while.
This came about when i added an isolated DMX controller, and i had to decide what dc-dc to use.
