    Default Army Surplus Mega Tree

Ok, So I was looking on ebay for whatever and came across this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTENNA-TRIP...item53ed5679e8 looks like it could be fun and easy to store. Add a crank and a few pully's and you have a mega tree.

Dang, I might buy one of them just for Field Day. A mega tree support would be icing on the cake.

Looks interesting. Note that the base that the guy shows on his eBay looks like plastic, and is not the original base for the mast....

That is tempting, but I think I will stick with my $3 1 1/4 PVC cemented into the ground with a $2 bag of concrete, the free 1" 20+ foot water pipe, the roll of 3/8 wire cable I picked up at a garage sale for around $5, and the cable clamps and pully from HD for about $10. I can CLIMB mine and I am a big guy...

But this looks like a great portable solution....

You can get 4' sections of the tower pretty cheap. 10-12 sections for around $50 shipped. I wonder how strong they are since it has the ribs on it. There is also some fiberglass sections on ebay too.

Might have to order some to play with!

I seem to recall that Henri (barbotte) went with the aluminum poles like these and it took quite a bit of propping up to keep it from bending over...

yes i am using the army pole for my megatree .. but my pole are 8 ft long section so i used 3 section for 24 ft ,, they only reason is bow in the center is because on the tension from the spirall tree ..my first year with straight tree was pretty good but i gess id does not like the spiral pression .... it still last the winter ... next year i will be using the same but will probaly support the center .
