I would think those little RJ45 to multiple solder pad boards would be useful to many.
Maybe you should sell them by the panel in the ever expanding emporium store?
I would think they could be cheap. I'm still amazed at how good the price is/way for the mini LED strobe boards that are being sold in AUZ.
You get a whole panel for like $5.
Hiya! Thats a decent idea -- but I just have to watch how many goofy things I ask our moronic engineers to put in the DIGWDF store... they're starting to rebel! They tell me that they did put a similar board in the file library a while back... but not this one with all the extra holes/pads... They were muttering things like "Geez, it has more holes but the board costs more, proving that more air is actually more expensive than solid material!"
I honestly don't know what the heck they're talking about most of the time...

The DIGWDF Store is the place to go for wireless stuff for Renard... controllers, adapters... or other junk that
nobody else would probably ever make. It's all in stock right now at http://diychristmas.org/store
It's surprising that nobody has been clamoring for this before now. With all the different boards available, there's been one constant: Cat5 cable. Termination is cheap and reliable. So a breakout board like this that could be put to multiple uses would be great. Does anyone know who produced the panelized strobe boards so we can find out the pricing secret?

I started this thread last spring, put photos of the build and some test videos... Here is a short 25-second segment of random action of these ornaments in the tree to show you how well they show up at night, and it ends with the climax of one of the sequences -- don't know which one as I didn't have a radio playing when I shot this... There is no sound and if you want to hear some music while you view this, just turn up the sound on your own show...
These jumbo ornaments have been fun and they're certainly one-of-a-kind. You can check earlier postings in this thread for how they're made, what materials and RGB LEDs I used, etc. I hung them using the cat5 cables plugged into the RJ45 jacks -- although I injected hot glue around the cables in the RJ45 plugs to add strength and keep them from wriggling loose. I also put a zip tie around part of the plug to keep the plastic snap from accidentally opening. There was some question about how well they'd survive, being blown around and all. Well, so far they've survived some hefty 40-50mph winds, and they're still working just fine, so I'd say the concept works pretty well. I plan to make more for 2013, and while I like these, I think I'll use the 5050 RGB LEDS for the next batch -- they'll probably be a little brighter. I'll still use the Ren48LSD board for them though -- ought to be perfect for 16 ornaments in the tree at 3 channels apiece.

Awesome job. I had thought I would just be adding a 3D star and strobes to my mega tree next year....you have now caused me to begin thinking of other, greater possibilities with the mega tree...
WOW!!! I need to quit looking at this forum. I neeeeeed to spend money every time I see someone else's ideas/designs. Dirk, you are a master. I need to retire so I can tinker more. I was wondering how to do RGB 5050 stuff, or why would I ever need to? Now I know. There is no end, there is no end. Last year, my 1st, 24 channels, now it somehow has bloomed into more than I can quickly sequence (stealing as many sequences as I can!). Quickly sequence? Did I say that? Took me 3 hours to do a 22 second intro. from scratch.
here's a zip file if that work....hope you enjoy!
First year: 2011 Christmas 24 Channels with Ren SS24
2nd year: Building 4 Ren SS24's, 3 Ren 64's, 32 Dirk SSR4's, 8 Rev 6's, and 6 RenServo's
Vixen 2.1
