Default E681, ELOR, and GECE Weirdness

I finally got 6 arches, 32 pixels each, built using my GECE's. I got an idea over the weekend to put them across the front of my porch using them for ambient lighting and a good way to test them out. Last night I had them all hooked up to my E681, ELOR and was using a few different sequences with S3. All my tests were working great, fading between colors, changing colors. My problem started with chases. If i did a chase with a fill and then a chase to off, the chase turning the lights on worked fine, but the chase to turn the lights off would leave about every 5th pixel still on. Didnt matter what color I used, it happened every time. If they turned on fast and off slow, it would still leave about every 5th pixel on. If I did a chase to turn them on and all off at the same time, it worked ok, it only screws up when the chase goes backwards.

Anyway, I was hoping someone who has a E681, ELOR and hopefully GECE pixels although I cant imagine its a pixel problem would run the same test for me and see what there results were. This makes no sense to me. Today I disconnected all but the first 32 pixels and it did the same thing. I dont think its a power supply probelm as all the lights when turned on turn a very bright white.

If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

I've heard that that sort of "weirdness" can occur if you do not turn on the power to your GECEs and the E681 at the same time or in the correct order (lights first then controller if not simultaneous). The E681 has to send out an addressing sequence that gets misinterpreted by the lights if done at the wrong time.

I just turned everything on, then reset the E681 and it still does the same thing.

This is an issue I have talked to Jim about in the past. I'm seeing it also using 2801 pixels and it has something to do with the ELOR and LOR protocol. Not sure of the fix!

Thanks Donny for the reply, makes me happy to know thats its not something I am doing wrong. I can put this issue to bed until we hear something further from Jim. If he needs some testing done I can help also.

I would rule out the ELOR by getting something like SACNview and driving the E681 directly to see if this happens under any other conditions.

You've got alot of moving parts involved here, and so eliminating some of the variables would help to narrow it down...

It would be a little easier to just get the XLights package, convert the same sequence and run it. Jim asked me to look and see if I could reproduce what Donny was seeing, but I've been too busy at work. 16 hour days and some travelling and I haven't been able to touch Blinky Flashy in 3 weeks. I think I need to adjust my priorities a little. Donny sent me some of what he was seeing. I'll try it on the ELOR and over XLight as soon as I can and see if I can make it happen. I think I recall Jim saying in email he wasn't seeing it, but the seems to confirm it.

I will try and run a test using xlights today or tommorow and report my findings. Xlights didnt look to hard to set using just the E681 controller.

Came home for lunch and set up xlights. Ran the same test and it worked perfectly. So it does seem to be an ELOR problem.

That being said at least it made me try out xlights now instead of later. It isnt so hard to set up xlights to run the S3 sequences, so we still have several options hopefully come this fall to run our shows with the E681's and S3.

If you can send me your sequence I will try to reproduce the problem. I was unable to duplicate what Donny was seeing.
