Very cool - the light distribution is very good up the entire "crystal" - everyone will be impressed with this for sure!

Note... the interaction of video camera timing and dimming leds causes an artificial flicker, flutter, or wavey appearance as colors dim. Almost like a flourescent tube. This is only in the video. When viewed live the fades are smooth and true.

Very cool Brian, there a little big for my house but who said they have to be that big? Scaling down is easy.

Poor David he's going to be swamped with ideas but what the heck. Take his Rectangle Luminary as a starting point, square up the base and make crystals from 1 to 2 or 3 feet high. Scatter them around the yard, nice.

Yes, they are a bit big, but I needed that size to fill an area in the main gym for this graduation event. I will shoot some photos of the final product near the end of May and post them here.

Can they be scaled? absolutely. I like the idea of several smaller ones around the yard... kind of like babies with the "big kahunas" over looking them...LOL

As for the freezing temps... I don't know. Dirk may be able to shed some light on the subject as he is always dealing with very very cold temperatures.

I do like how they capture the light in side, blend the RGB nicely, and radiate a solid color. I will be using more coroplast in the future.

To finish up this thread....I am happy to report we completed the Project Grad show on May 21st and the crystals in the "Chill Zone" were a big success.

Attached you will find a photo of some of our set up crew at entrance to the Chill Zone. Gives you scale.

I ended up using 6 Color Punch LED light fixtures, one in each crystal. They are a high powered professional fixture (~$500 each). We rented ours for 4 days for a lot less.

Crystals really were the centerpiece to the large gym decorations.

According to the official coroplast technical data sheet (google: coroplast temperature limits, first result), the product will behave normally down to -17F. Therefore, It is probably good to much colder than that. Remember, this is the stuff all the outdoor signs at gas stations is made from.

Thanks John.... We had a 96% attendance rate (that is 96% of all graduating seniors attended the event...~430).

I do believe we are saving young lives. Also, the seniors were very appreciative of all the parents did to get this up and running.
