some time back, I think from memory, it only goes to 64 Channels max and is "Pre-Programmed" to do random "Blinky Flashy" while playing the music off the SD Card.
I have all the issues here in my library, and could scan them if required, but I wouldn't waste my time on the project!!

What's curious about the project is the DSPIC on the board, that should have the horsepower to do more than just random 'blinky-flashy'.

I wasn't trying to suggest using a cheaper processor (as you implied), rather that the processor is so powerful that there are lots of neat things that they could have done (admitting that I haven't read the pay-walled part of the articles). Since there are doubtlessly FFT libraries and the like available, there is the possibility that they could have automatically synced the lights to the audio music spectrum... It would have taken more work to add this feature (assuming that it isn't already there), but would not necessarily involve low-level programming.

It appears the software has some DSP capability.
