Correct .. Cant wait to add more strings but too many financial commitments atm.it looks like meteors, garlands and butterfly.

whats a good controller to use on this? e680 / e681 ?
The oringal poster is using the ECG-P12R, which is a E1.31-pixel controller from Ed at www.j1sys.com. It handles a few more pixels than the E680/681, I believe.
The whole tree will be 24x42 pixels or about 1000 pixels. You would need two E680/681s to run that many, unless you grouped the pixels by 2.
Congratulations to everyone it looks absolutely awesome. I can't wait to try mine some day.
Thanks to everyone who helps and works on this.
I really appreciate all the effort.

ohhhh ima try and see where i can get the e680/e681 might have to get 3 2 to use and one or even another to mess with hopefully they will have a group buy coming for for themLOOKS fun
seems like ray wu is really the best deal i can find around and i like the led cause its easy to glue them in something straight so the done move much![]()
If you are serious about building a Pixel tree you can not go past the ECG-P12R from J1sys @ http://www.j1sys.com/ .
This unit can control 12 strings of 170 pixels per string for a total of 2040 pixels for $190 outside the US . That = $0.093 per pixel assembled and tested .
Was my choice for this project and at 24 strings of 42 pixels Im only using half the board .

ok i have some questions for ya.
what is the spacing between pixels?
what is the spacing between the strings?
how tall is the tree and the diameter of the base?
how are you keeping the strings straight?
looks really good. ready to get my tree started.
2012 - The year of the pixels
21ft tall 12x38ct WS2811 Pixel Megatree - DONE
5 36ct GECE Pixel Archs - Maybe
Pixelated roofline with windows - DONE
Bigger matrix and pixel star - DONE
Added 1200 pixels, a few strobes, and fast tubes
Now it just all has to play nicely lol.

Approx 5 incheswhat is the spacing between pixels?
At the top approx 2 inches . At the bottom approx 11 inches.what is the spacing between the strings?
Approx 18 feet high with a base diameter of 13 feet.how tall is the tree and the diameter of the base?
As at that video I was taping the pixels to 20mm conduit. I am changing that to drilling holes through the conduit and inserting pixels from the back. Why ? I noticed that the pixel strings varied in spacing by +/- 1/16 of an inch. Not a big deal ordinarily but over 42 pixels that equates to anything up to 2 1/2 inches. I originally used a master and found with the variants it was painful to copy using tape.how are you keeping the strings straight?

My excitement is building for this project .
Played with new design on the weekend, I now plan to drill 1008 12mm holes and insert the pixels from behind.
In amongst building my coro stars playing with tint tube and drawing wiring diagrams, I played with the concept in a length of conduit and all tests worked well.
Ordered 1008 pixels from Ray Wu and awaiting arrival before I begin drilling just to ensure I get the correct spacing.
Between work, solving an issue with a non x-mas light led problem I tested my drilling jig today and it worked better than expected.
Soo bring on delivery of my pixels .. One month to completion is my expected time frame.
