    Default Nutcracker, new effect, snowstorm

There is a new effect for the Nutcracker software.

Snowstorm tried to simulate snowflakes in blowing wind. For this effect, i keep track of every snowflake in an array. I then give a random value to a vector and remember the new direction. This may look like just the blinking pixels, the logix is very different. Try picking one snowflake and follow its path.

You get prompted for the Maximum Snowflakes to start in the storm.

    user_target ZZ_ZZ
    effect_class snowstorm
    effect_name SNOW1
    window_degrees 180
    seq_duration 5
    start_color #FF250D
    end_color #051EFF
    frame_delay 50
    maxSnowflakes 50
submit Submit Form to create your effect

Now lets try , say 300 snowflakes
    _POST
    username f
    user_target ZZ_ZZ
    effect_class snowstorm
    effect_name SNOW2
    window_degrees 180
    seq_duration 5
    start_color #FF250D
    end_color #051EFF
    frame_delay 50
    maxSnowflakes 300
submit Submit Form to create your effect

Lets tone down the effect by limiting to 150 pixels and a smaller color range

    effect_class snowstorm
    effect_name SNOW3
    window_degrees 180
    seq_duration 5
    start_color #1E05FF
    end_color #00FF2A

    frame_delay 50
    maxSnowflakes 150
submit Submit Form to create your effect

This is definitely a case where "less is more" Less flakes at a lesser speed make it look more like a snowstorm!

That's pretty cool. Is there a way to set it up so they're all shades of white/gray (all RGB values the same)?

Like all my other effects u have a start and end color. You can make the start and end white, white to gray, only blue .etc.

you can choose the color with the mouse or u can type in hex color codes.

I will play with this effect come time in the future. I want the movement to be slower. It is more like a blizzard instead of snowstorm.

I am thinking of all effects letting the sparkle value actually be a color.

So something like 30% sparkle with a blue. Right now it is always white. I think the snowstorm might be nice to have everything be white and a few be a solid color blowing around.

I have thought of a lava lamp. I have no shortage of ideas for effects it seems.

I still have fireworks, avi movies,
The effects I haven't finished, vertical and horizontal bands, the projection of an image onto rgb space,

I have looked at Madrid demos, most of those effects I could do,

I once asked theodicy community to post videos and the timing mark of any effect they would like to

    See in nutcracker.

Maybe I need to make a web page whereeople could post videos and the timing mark where their effect shows up.

This way I have an inbox of effects .

I think I willbe working this until Xmas 2013

    Sean,

What is the reason for having to create an account to use the Nutcracker utility?
Are you planning to convert to a commercial enterprise after a period of time to create sequence files for the various software packages?

    Just curious.
    Cheers!

The only reason i have you create an account is so that i can store your effects and targets under your login name.

You login with your account so that you see all the effects you have been working with.

There are currently 242 users who have created 605 effects. Your effects and targets are stored in a mysql database. This is the only reason i have login accounts. Notice i dont ask anyone for their email. It is just your login and your name.

I did think about making the tool a commercial enterprise when i first started in January.
I decided that I would like to keep the tool free in the same spirit as these DIYC boards where people give to let everyone enjoy the holidays.

I already have some ideas for a second generation Nutcracker program, plans ill keep secret for now. I have plenty of work to finish Generation 1. Generation 2 will be later this year or early next year.

Everything you see in the current Nutcracker will always be free.

    thanks
