I was looking @ the Tiger Direct website & they have a Lenovo ThinkCentre Desktop for $89, I think will be a good computer to run Vixen or any other program that you use to control your lights

2012: 5,400 LEDs and Counting - Mega Tree, 3 Leaping Arches with Poles, 1 RenSS24 & 5 RenSS16 with XBee Snap-In Kits
Nice find! I see that it even has two serials and one parallel port. It's hard to fine PC's these days with more than one serial port (without the added expense of an expansion card).
2011:
5,000 lights; 48 channels.
Thanks for the heads up. I have been thinking about getting a dedicated pc for my Christmas stuff but havent wanted to spend an arm and a leg for another considering I have four. Plus hard to convince the wife I need one just for the lights.
Ill check this out later.
2012 :
Great first year.
2 houses, 344 channels
I have run the last two seasons on a very similar unit ( an Australia version with same specs). They are rock solid.

Thanks for sharing that great deal!
The specs are very similar to the laptop I used last year for my show and test with in my garage. Unfortunately it crawls with Vixen 3 with the 798 channels I am using for the ~266 pixels on my roofline. I haven't even added in the pixels I'll be using for window surrounds, or ~100 standard renard channels.
From the posts in the Vixen section, a lot of things are going to be changing, but just wanted to let people know that before they thought $89 would be enough to run that range of channels.
MD,
Very true. I need to upgrade this year also.

as an aside if you need a monitor too look at craigs list...people usually giving away a crt monitor for free. if this is just for shows/backup, that should be plenty.
