Great project!

The tinkerer in me twitches to try two variants.

Two controllable RGB rows of lights between the glass and mirror (a mere 6 channels), so one could do colors and movement down the well (leaving pixels out for the moment).

Servo or motors/screwdrive under the mirror support to allow tilting the reflection just a tiny bit, which should make the reflected universe curve to various sides.

However, the current form is pretty classic (or classy),and better woodwork than I would probably manage...
