I think a bit of standardization is in order, otherwise we would be reinventing the wheel over and over again (which I'm not too terribly against).

Think of it like Lego's; they come in standard sizes, but it's how you put them together that makes it your own.

Where are we at with the design? Hows the layout progressing. Can eagle files them self be shared?

I think that we have to come to a consensus as to what needs first for PCBs. Then get that done. Yes Eagle files can be shared if they are released via some sort of open hardware framework. There are several open source standards that can be employed to release layouts.

My layouts are done with the freeware version of Eagle and by Cadsoft's license I can not use them for commercial purposes. So my layouts will be for myself or educational benefit. I derive no profit from them unless I upgrade to a different license. In that case things could change. I like Eagle schematic and layout editor. their rip up and retry autorouter is not worth the $500 in my humble opinion for the professional license. I would not give $5 for it. Then that is a matter for another forum section.

I'm not seeing the "commercialization" side of your argument. Are you planning to make some money off of the DIYC aspect here? Cadsoft allows sharing, which is not commercial in any form, and they also provide an Upload area on their website for projects, libraries, etc.

It doesn't affect me one way or another whether you share or keep your work private, but I think you might be misinterpreting the license a little. I'm not completely positive, but selling PCBs made from Eagle for the price of the manufacturing and shipping would probably not break their rules.

I really enjoy being in the over-60 age group. I can get grumpy, assertive, and opinionated and not feel too guilty about it.

How are we doing on this design? Where are we at? I am hyped up it is getting closer to the Christmas lights testing date. Summer will be over soon enough!

Hi, A lot of Arduino INFO on the ArduinoInfo WIKI here - http://arduinoinfo.info

Let me know if I can help with this effort...

Did this ever go ahead? I made an arduino > ws2803 > 3x HEX inverter > 18 N-type mosfet board with a few amps per channel but I just need code now to get vixen to talk to it fully. I can post schematics if needed.

I developed a working solution here that is Renard compatible, 16 channel, works with the standard SSR's on this forum (I use SSR Neon personally)
and has code, circuit schematics, pcbs (suitable for home build), it's also cheaper than Renard to build. Zero crossing is also built into the controller.

I'm using it this year in my display, with 2 houses and it's working well.

Everything is documented in this thread, at some point I'll get it on the wiki but this is complete if you read through
    it:
