Teccor L6008L8 Triacs

Long time lurker, first time poster. I currently have about 250 L6008L8 triacs that work beautifully with my Olsen 595's, simple on/off operation. My question is could anyone tell me if these are zero cross or not. I am wanting to move towards dimming displays and would be ecstatic if I could use these same triacs on the SSR's. I have read through the datasheet and could find nothing about "zero-crossing" with my non-engineering eyes. There was this tantalizing tidbit on the first page that reads "It is used primarily for AC switching and phase control applications such as motor speed controls, temperature modulation controls, and lighting controls." Am I in luck? Also, I read a thread from some time back where they were alluding to the opto as having to be random crossing to dim, that does not sound right to me, is it?

You want random crossing SCRs, not zero cross type which does sound backwards. It "sounds" like these would work for you reading the data sheet. They might be higher gate requirements so they might react differently with lighter loads like LEDs but someone smarter than me can tell you that.

It is the optos that are 'zero-crossing' or 'random-phase'. They don't make that distinction wrt triacs. Those parts should be OK. They have a 10 mA gate current trigger requirement, and they do have isolated tabs.

Thank you for the quick responses. I must say that I am surprised to find out that it IS all about the opto's when it comes to dimming. I was always under the assumption that it was the triac that made the difference. That is why forums like this are important. Thanks again.
