Thumbs up Re: Vixen 3.0 Introduction Series - Part 3

Actually, KC's already given away the secret -- the software is done, but they're still working on the module names - such as whiz-bang "Super Mega Tree Color Spectacular Spin Effect of Wonder" !!! ;) ;)

They're having to devote a terabyte of disk space for the module name table.

    (For the humor-impaired - I'm just kidding!)

Thanks so much to KC and the team - we ALL appreciate the tremendous outlay of time and effort you're all putting out on our behalf, even if we don't express it as often as we should. I can only hope that you all feel at least one-thousandth of the self-satisfaction that you deserve for all your work. :D :D :D

Thanks again, and I can hardly wait!!!!

I skipped last year, and this year, but need to get started now for my Valenines day Display. I can not seem to find the Vixen 3.0 software. Can someone point me in the right direction??

    Thanks.

Is it me or are there no filters available in the latest release?
I wanted to test with RGB pixels (ws2811 and a P12 over E1.31) but I can't get it to work....

    Greetings, Robert

Gee, with all the HLS and Nutcracker threads popping up, I've kind of forgotten development is still going on here.

    It is, isn't it?

Yes, even faster now that the season is over. I hope to have a Generic Serial plug in done by the end of the week and then start on a 2.x to 3.x sequence importer.

    John:

You're going to provide for 2.5 sequences, right ??

Thanks for all your hard work.

The goal is to import all version 2 sequences into 3. Now, there may be caveats. What those may be is only speculation at this point so I would rather not cause panic and upheaval at this time by listing them out since I think many of them have a technical solution that will be transparent to the end user. In the end, the general idea is you will import your 2.x sequence into 3.x and then use 3.x from that point forward. How this will look, work, etc. still has not been defined, there has only been high level conversations between KC, sallzOr and myself (at least the ones to which I have been privy.)

Yup, still very active. :-) There's been a few people running 3.x for their displays this year (well, 2012, sorry!), which is great, and we've ironed out a few other problems with their help. I'm hoping that 2013 might be the year that we can get a lot of people that are using 2.x onto 3.x!

Of course, I'm not saying people *have* to change -- if they're happy with 2.x and it's doing everything they want, great! But, 2.x isn't developed or maintained anymore, and there's so many more features in 3.x that handle things 'properly', instead of making users do things manually.

Of course, there's still problems with it, but that's why we'd love to have community help and support throughout the year -- if we can get people testing it and giving us feedback in the first 6 months of the year, we can focus a lot of development effort then, and get quick turnarounds on new versions. (The problem we had last year is that we started getting people using it and raising problems in November -- when everyone's also busy with their own displays!) :-)

There should be. What version did you download? If you grab the latest (3.0.3.1), there should be one or two filters in there -- a color breakdown one (for RGB), and a dimming filter. (or maybe the dimming filter hasn't made it in yet, I can't remember.)

Yep -- we're discussing it with John at the moment, he's kindly volunteered to do the work. One thing I'd like to clarify, though -- it's going to be a one-way compatibility only. For example, we'll support importing v2 sequences into a v3 format, and then you can use v3 to edit them and work on them from there, but we won't be backwards compatible from v3 to v2. I don't think it would be much of a problem for anyone, but wanted to clarify.

Yes, not looking for two-way conversions, just wanted to make sure 2.5 format wasn't forgotten (as its such a small user base, it sometimes is).

    Thx.
