i can help out here as i was laying out a board last night.
do you want the daughter board to plug dirrectly into the controller?
we could also use the same controller mounting holes?
do you want a single DMX channel per daughter bd?

I'm partial to a single simply because then you an run as many or as few outputs as you want.

I kind of like the single daughter card idea as well, that's too funny that you were just working on one. I have a non-isolated one in my breadboard right now that I was using for testing, it works great.

Man that hurts, I am still waiting to my 5M crystals, they are sitting in my Post Office box.

Ok, Single it is, Isolated it is. A schema for defeating the isolation it will have.

    Ben,
what is the resistor chain on your sample, and what drive the Relay?

The resistors are there to terminate that end of the DMX line when using the board as a transmitter. That part of the schematic comes straight out of the RDM standards doc.

Relay? I'm not sure what you mean.

Ahhh, not a relay just a set of dipswitches or jumpers.

Would it be fair to say if RDM is implemented, then Isolation can't be used? I ask because looking at Ben's cct, the Resistor stack R3, R4 & R5 are connected to +5v not +5V/ISO.

If this is the case, it would be better to do two separate I/F boards one Isolated an one RDM capable.

The schematic is wrong, they should be tied to ISO.

Excellent. How fixed are you on J1 connections?
    The layout may be neater to swap J1:3 to J1:4, J1:4 to J1:5 & J1:5 to J1:3.
