Thanks in advance for your advice.

hmmm, the Debug unit also has lessons in C. That is a useful thing to learn, as that is what is used to write some of the files for this hobby.
    Either is fine though.

if cost is an issue you might want to look at the pik kit 2 clone i bought.

from memory it cost about $25 US shipped.

    check http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com...ead.php?t=2406

works great and the links to the seperate programming adaptor are good as well but i have seen sure electronics sell both the programmer and adaptor for a good price.

    might be worth a look

I want a programmer that I can do more then just program for the Christmas stuff. I want something I can learn about microcontrollers from. Would I be better off getting a pickit2 with the debugger and demo board for $50? Or can someone suggest anything better for both purposes.
As a kid I was always in trouble for taking stuff apart. I'm finnaly learning how to put it back together!

After looking around that kit seems to do it all. However, I JUST got it and have yet to use it. Shipping is a bit pricey but it comes FEDEX 2nd day. Sorry no choice on that one.

For those who are looking for a good little programmer, I bought an inexpensive USB pic programmer from kee electronics via eBay this last spring, and it works perfectly, every time. Cost was only $39 including shipping!!!

Buzzkill's right. The PICKIT2 is the best deal. About the same price as you could find a cheapo but with a lot more "stuff" -- probably written in English, too...

I'll probably buy one and keep my cheapo as a backup...
