Still confused on LOR and Renard Mix...

I would like to start using Renard with my LOR controllers. I understand it can be done with Vixen running the show...

My question is would it be reasonable to program all the sequences using the LOR S2 software and then just converting it to vixen just to run it? I have a lot of experience with S2 and would rather not switch to a different software to program the sequences. Personal preference and all. However, I really want to start using the DIY stuff, and it seems that Vixen is the common bond here.

Alternatively, I see DMX in the mix, but with the LOR idmx device being so expensive, i'm not sure if that's a good option.

I would love to hear from anyone who is currently doing this...

I went 2 years with LOR before converting to Renard / Vixen. I didn't want to redo all my sequences, and I too was used to using LOR S2.

I sequenced everything for 2010 in LOR, and used the Lor2vix program found in this thread: http://doityourselfchristmas.com/for...-LOR-and-Vixen to convert it.

To get channel assignments correct was a little painful. There is probably a better way, but here is what I found I had to do: (I could never get Vixen to reassign properly)

I set my channel assignments in LOR using controller 2 channel 1 as renard channel 17, controller 3 channel 1 as renard channel 33... (Make sure every channel is assigned! If you have an empty channel, it needs to be assigned to a blank track)
Then I imported it into Light Show Pro. This changed the channel order to match what they physically are. (Vs the layout in LOR tracks)
Making sure the controllers were in the proper order in LSP, and exported as a LOR sequence
Opened the LSP exported sequence in LOR, fixed shimmers and twinkles, and checked the end of the sequence - some had additional "Time" added that would cause the conversion program to crash.
After the cleanup, saved the sequence (This also updated the file to the current LOR format so lor2vix works)
Used lor2vix to convert it to Vixen.
Opened in Vixen, attached the audio, profile and added to show.

I would like to have used LSP to run the show, but the fades / chases didn't look good from LSP, and with 10ms timing in Vixen, everything was smooth!

Hopefully that wasn’t too confusing, and helps! (Light Show Pro is another option that can run both the LOR and Renard networks at the same time)

Wow, that sounds painful. So I take it you are programming in Vixen directly now? I would like to always program in S2 and convert to Vixen after each edit. Doesn't sound like that's gonna happen with such a difficult conversion. Hmm.

No, I still program everything in LOR S2. I use too many tracks and custom timings, and I dono't want to "Learn" how to do it in Vixen... :D The conversion goes pretty fast, the long part is waiting for Light Show Pro to convert the files. Once they are converted, I try to not change them.
