Have to either telescope straight up or pivot at the bottom, right? Tell me more.

Set the pipe and guy it at 6ft.
Attach the 8 spokes and electrical at 6ft.
One pulley at the top and a 1200 lb winch to take it up to 24ft.
This will also be raising the guy wires to the top.
So one cable will be holding it up, and 4 will be trying to hold it down.

OK here is my master diagram

The first is a top or bottom view and represents the 8 branches on the hub
The second is a side view and shows the 4 spokes per branch.

    8 * 4 = 32 total spokes * 4 colors = 128 rope light segments.
and 32 C9 LEDs on the tips.

So the picture of the hub only has two of the four spoke holes drilled per flange? How are you going to attach the spokes using the holes and keep them at the desired angle? Genius design.

I think the pipe is 2 inch. Whatever the 1.25in pvc connector fits inside of.
    The pieces on the hub are 2 x 4 x 1/8
Four spokes get welded to a 1 x 5 x 3/16 inch piece of steel.
That gets bolted to the hub with two bolts.
The spread at the tips will be 7ft.
I can handle large items as long as they breakdown and can store flat.
    ie... hang on a wall.

That's one spoke, right? So it will actually be a little over 14' total diameter, right? I think you really have come up with a great design.. I hope you don't mind if I 'borrow' it.

This looks like it is going to be waaaaay cool. Can't wait to see it in action. Maybe some pics of setup when you do it.

7ft is top to bottom for one four spoke assembly.
The individual spokes are only 4ft long.

Overall dimensions should be 8.5ft wide and 7ft high(if all the sketching is accurate)
All the rope light segments are folded to half the size.

14ft would be much more impressive, but way to unwieldy for my weather conditions.

I have never had a problem sharing any my designs.
    Ill steal anything I like.
Anyone willing to put in the amount of time and effort required to copy my designs , is more than welcome to try.
I will spend all summer creating designs that can be final assembled in hours, not days or weeks.

Since this is becoming an official design I guess I have to name it.

There is a final 24 channel twist(literally) that no one is going to see coming.

    Not yet.
    Too many other projects.

Finish taking down the last lights.
    Finish the CNC
    Clean and fill the pond
    Finish the watergun sentry.
    Till the garden.

Many other things to do once all the snow is gone.

    Joel

Changed the base design again to make it simpler.

I am in the same boat... I have to finish the z-tree sections that are sitting on the grass and get them out of there, plus one more Marty fan that's half done, etc...

I am going to do the same project, though, so I will post updates as soon as I have any.

2+ inches of rain in the last 48 hours, but today was clear so I took the afternoon off.

Created a jig. Line up all the parts.

    Burn some wood

Create a new mega tree maybe.

    OK Put it all together

Throw on the winch just to see how it works.

Now I just have to attach all the lights and wire it.
