Default A little Ice Tower Fun

    Hi All

Got bored over the weekend and decided to have some fun with the snow and really low temperatures. I decided to make an Ice Tower with lights inside. The Ice Tower idea I got from a guy at work who makes a large ice tower out of an old dead tree. Thought i would combine that idea with might obsecion with lights.

Mine is 14' tall and made with 1 piece of rebar, 1 1/2" metal coduit and a piece and a half of 3/4" pvc pipe. Then i ran really strong string as tie downs.
Also just used 1/4" flextube to run the water. Screwed up the first night and used the wrong adapter and ended up freezing the line. (Should have blown it out first, before fooling around with the leaky adapter.) Had to tear it all down to unfreeze the line.

Might use a couple of these (shorter) for next years show. Will probably use dual tube, so if one freezes i can run hot water thru the other to unfreeze it.

Its on its second night of growing and starting to get decent.

I don't know how long it will stand, its a race between the ice getting big enough to support itself and the whole thing failing catostrophicly.

Will add more pics as it grows bigger.

Ohh and yes it is far enough from the house.

    Update:
Grew alot overnight, blizzard is dumping tons of snow.
The Ice tower is leaning significantly but not to much tension on the lines.
I did add one, we will see if it makes it to the night.

    Update 2:
Added picture of the ice tower at its max, bent over sometime today.
Somehow i don't think the metal conduit is going to slide out of the PVC.
Notice the sideways icicles, at the point this was taken that string was cut. Neat to see a 2+ foot icecle going sideways.

Ohh and hear is the final video.

I like it. A display that takes itself down! Totally new concept!
