Default More mega tree planning question

    Or questions...

What is the best size to have the tree. If you want each pie section to go up then back down. That would make it about 11.5 feet. or use 2 strands in your pie and make it 23 ft or go 3 strands per pie piece and make it like 34 ft. 34 ft though seems way huge. :D I plan to dig a hole to concrete in my base pipe if that matters. Also it will be 24chs 8 sections per color 3 colors red, green, white. I also would like to do 2 or 3 other simi mega trees 1/2 the size of my mega those will be 12 chs. Thanks for the thoughts.

Default Re: More mega tree planning question

I'm shocked you didn't get a ton of replies. I'll tell you about mine first. I have a twenty foot flag pole in my yard (four section telescoping type). I found a mega tree calculator link here somewhere. I used that to decide the Diameter ( tall, skinny or short, fat or where you want in between). So my base is 5 nine foot sections of 3/4" PVC conduit on the ground held down with 2ft rebar (folded in half around a pipe) pounded in with a couple of inches to lift the base to wrap the strings around. My lights are super strings, red, green, blue tied to 1/16" cable, the cable hooked to the top of the tree and staked to the ground after one wrap around the base. I have 16 of these run by two Ren 24 3.3 so I can run a radar sweep (one string at a time chase) or silhouette (two opposite strings chase) and a tripod chase (a string of each color evenly spaced [kinda] chase). I copied "The James Family" tree top for hooks to hang the cables. I don't think I could lift much more by myself, so I'll need help next if I add more lights. So after all this I'd say you need to plan out every detail, and some plans will change other plans (a change in height will change your diameter or look. A change in controller will change amount of channels. Ect.) after you get it all on paper and your sure every detail is there and everything is going to work, have someone else go over it for what you may have missed or over looked. Then start buying to build it. Oops Don't forget to think about how your going to get it up and down (34ft rent a cherry picker? 35ft ladder? Pole jack? tilting tower? You get the idea) let me know if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help. Also Planet Christmas .com has a megatree forum and megatree pole forum. You might want to start with one big one OR the smalls. It'll be easier to change after you find out what you like. Like I want to move up to 24 super strings next year and to 32 the year after. To make them closer together for smoother effects, more fluid like. Brian
