Hello all. I just registered and figured I would drop in here and say hi and also say why I'm here.

I'm in a project consisting of approximately 4 hobbies, IE. golf cart, metal fabrication, computers, and LED lighting. I have restored a 1993 36vdc electric EZGO golf cart. I am also custom fabricating an early classic 1930ish automobile style body on it. I put a carputer in it with a touch screen monitor and now that I have the computer working it's time for me to get all the lights for it. My plan for being here in this forum is to learn what I need, for a light show I plan to unveil on the 4th of July. I would like to have the appearance of fireworks, under and around the cart, going off to our national anthem. I'll have colored strobes and a smoke maker too.

I have way too many questions for this post. Plus I need to read all your FAQ and WIKIs.

    Best Regards
    Gonk

Wow, that sounds like a really cool project! I'd love to see pictures of the build as you progress. Good luck and ask away. There are many great minds here on DIYC that can answer your questions.

Thanks Mat er daddy, I know this is a welcome thread so I'll keep it short. If you are interested in the build I own www.gonkulor.com. No advertisements or spam, there better not be. If there is any bad juju from the site I better know about it. I've been chronicling my build since early last fall.

greetings from detroit, where it's christmas all year round! (actually, that's at bronners, up in frankenmuth, but close enough).

i am an avid diy-er, a member of the i3detroit hackerspace community, and just love to tinker with mechanical and electronic gadgets. i've been a software developer for almost two decades, and have been recently introduced to the wonderful world of 'duino programming.

i have been tasked, by my children, to make a "singing house like the one down the street" - to that end, I am building a netduino-driven device that will take an audio input (via micro-sd card (mp3 files) or standard 3.5mm stereo jack), translate that into 7 channels (times 2 for stereo) of digital signals, and use those signals to trigger 7 solid state relays, driving 120vac outlets. into these outlets will the hallowe'en/christmas light strings be plugged, thus transforming our house into a singing, blinking, glowing child-pleasing wonder!

once completed, pcb'd, and project-boxed, the device will allow for any loads to be plugged in, including the standard light strings, led stings, household lamps, etc. each outlet can carry up to 8 amps, or 20 amps total (fuse-limited) for all 7 outlets.

i've gotten as far as completing the programming and breadboarding everything except the 120vac lines. i'm a bit wary of hooking this up to mains power, and won't really have time to "play" again until mid-july)

    regards,

    rwl

    Welcome to the community.

Hmm.. I wonder how many others got into this because of what the kids asked..

I just registered and thought I would say hello to everyone.

I am 14 and have been in the lighting hobbie for almost 6 years. I am a long time member on lightorama forums and am starting to get into the DIY side of things. I have recently started building many LE boards but would like to expand my horizon and go even further in the DIY side. I am almost at 300 channels for this year and any help would be appreciated on input for my display and rgb lighting. Have a good day everyone.

    Welcome to DIYC, John.

You'll have a lot of fun here -- and from the sound of it, you have a lot of experience going for you already! Awesome!

I'm sure you're familiar with the way forums work, so I won't get into that except to say that there's a whole bunch of information out there just waiting for a guy like you to come along! Just start from the first post of a thread and follow it through.

Welcome to the DIY side of the hobby -- there's no end to it!
