I was wondering If I took a pic of my house would you all be up to helping me find a sweet layout for my next years display. Where to put stuff ect. This year was a test but next year I really want a incredable display. I will post a pic if I get some intrest. A side note All I asked for this year was gift cards to lowes home depot wallmart so I can stock pile light for the 2010 display.

Thanks
John

I am no artist but here is a rough draft,The red and green will be my color changes. The mega tree will have 3 colors with 1 ch for the star. So far my leaping arches will have 3 chs 1 color but have not even decided for sure. I may go 4 chs each 2 colors The stars on the roof, I was thinking on using something like the Holdman effect. So from there I am not sure. Doing the trees like that will suck up som chs quick. No rush I have some time but any thoughs will be appericated and used lol.

Merry Christmas

Agreed - there's several homes around me that do that down the street - quite breathtaking even with just static - add even a single color change - wowzer!

How about some candy canes or something up the driveway?

Also I have 8 mini trees already multi color Ill add those buy the tire swing, and the candy canes I only have 5 but I use them on the yard in front of the big window. So that leaves the roof should I do anything there or leave it as is. Right now I am am at about 96chs give or take not really sure how many the Big trees will take.

Merry Christmas

You could do lots of fun stuff on that roof too. I wish my roof was flatter for that stuff. Put some wireframes or fountain poles up there.

Sorry but what is a fountain pole?

Here is my two cents.

1) Along the roof line - hang icicles in sections so you can chase them
2) Along the driveway - Candy Canes
3) Mini trees - Tip do these in multiples of 2's easier for sequencing in my opinion

May have to scale down a bit, I was hoping for 96 channels but not sure if that is a reality. I thought I would at least be able to make a dent in the amount of lights I needed but not having much luck. So to dish out about 500.00+ when the lights come back this year probably will not happen. I will keep scanning garage sales ect. So I think 64channels may be the target #.

John - you probably have a local freecycle.org in Alba-quirky...it's a place where people give away usable stuff, to keep it out of the landfills. You can request that instead of people throwing away their light strings, you can take them, then just fix as needed. I probably picked up 100 different strings over the last year, and 3 or 4 christmas trees, up to an 8 footer. I also got empty coffee jugs, the plastic ones, for boards and SSR's, and where I join two extension cords. Check it out, at: Albuquerque, NM Freecycle (http://freecycle.org/group/United%20States/New%20Mexico/Albuquerque)

On your house, I saw one close by me, that had a big star laid out on a roof almost exactly like yours, took up the entire roof, and each of the legs could be programmed. I like stars...

Not to take away from the DIY aspect of this hobby but after reading this thread I did wonder how many of us are good with the technical side but not so good on the design side. Might be an opportunity for an entrepreneur here ...

John,

I am on the westside and can give you a hand if you'd like. I also have some clear minis that I would be willing to part with pretty cheaply if you need them.

First off I'd wrap the trees with 1 or 2 colors.Have em fade together it would look hot.On the branches make em dance...Higher channel count but worth it.If you join branch 1 from tree 1 to branch 1 of tree 2 etc... you can combine channels to make it easier..Also too with your leapers you can do the same thing..Have them all move together as one unit(string one on all move then 2 and so forth) then as your channels expand so can the effects...ALso another idea for keeping your channel count down is taking a string of lights, folding it in half and using that for the front and back of a mega tree.So if the string is 16 feet long do a tree 8 feet and you get 8 feet per side....Lots of things you can combine to keep your channel count down...These are just a few ideas...
Hope this helps.
Joe...
