I know this one has been done to death; however I cannot get my head around it.

This is what I have
• 1 string of mini lights with 300 bulbs
• Bulb rating 2.4v 0.288w
• 15 lights in series
• Transformer Input 240v ac 50Hz – Output 36V ac 90 VA

This is what I am trying to achieve
• Split the string into 3 lengths ( 2 x 105 bulbs and 1 x 90 bulbs) - this part I think I understand
• Power the new strings – this is where I am confused

The questions.
• Is it possible to power one new string using the same transformer without blowing the bulbs
• Is it possible to power all the new strings from the one transformer without blowing the bulbs? If it is - how do I connect the 3 light strings to the transformer

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Anthony

It sounds like the configuration of the original string is 300 bulbs in a 15 series 20 parallel configuration? (20 parallel strings of 15 lights each).

Since your power supply is almost guaranteed to be a basic constant voltage transformer, it should be no problem to run just one string off it.

I'm assuming you want to run the three strings in parallel but not end-to-end? (since you wouldn't have split them if you wanted to end-to-end them) - This should be fine too.
