Hello All,
I found something cool in Home Depot the other day and I just felt like sharing it with you guys here.
This is in regards to buying "white" LED light strings. Normally when you buy a set of these "white" lights, they are actually a bluish white color and definitely don't have an incandescent bulb look to them. It is for this reason why I still insist on an LED / mini-bulb mix of strings in my displays. Color lights look fine in LED, but there is always that bluish white color that bothered me on the 'white' LED sets, so I still use mini-bulbs for white light strings.
Well, I must say I discovered a light set that I have not seen anywhere else as of yet that gets around the problem I mentioned above. Yep! Actual WHITE LED light strings that look like incandescent bulbs!!!
The strings are made by Sylvania and the bulbs are in the shape of a C3 light and they have faceted bulb shaped domes. The strings offer what they call "Cool Glo" technology. The box clearly says WARM WHITE. Naturally I had to plug a light set it right then and there to take a look at it. When I did I was pleasantly surprised. The light color was indeed spot on WARM WHITE and at first I did think I was looking at an incandescent light set. But doing the 'move LEDS back and forth" test, I could detect a flicker. So the lights were indeed LED. So I bought myself two sets to start with and I am going to mix them into my display with my real incandescent mini-light strings. Then I can do a true comparison. But thus far I am motivated enough by them to go full LED for next year. Thusfar the only downside I see is the cost. They are a bit pricey at 9.97 for a set of 50 and costs can add up quickly if you have a predominantly white light display (as I do). But I am sure that you could get some good deals after Christmas :).
