Hi All
Here is a way to turn your 6 chanel box (the ones you buy at k-mart/wal-mart etc.) into one you can put in your own music.
To make a long story short...I bought an RCA lights in motion box a couple of years ago. was happy with it till i found out it only plays about 30 seconds of all songs, WOOOHOOO,,,~slaps chest and rolls eyes~ LOL... well its quite impressive to some who have never seen anything like it but to me TALK ABOUT LAME!!!
This year i decided to look inside it for maybe a way to connect it to stereo (notice how volume sucks on them?) looking around inside i see that converting this to work like an Olsen is going to be easy!!!!!
Check attached pics
First of course take out all screws on back of unit and carefully pull it apart
Most pieces just slip out of notches (speaker-outlets)
You will see a panel connected to the outlets (look for 6 black-6 white wires) it will have a silver heat sink on it also. there will be 2 red wires and 7 little wires in color of rainbow with a black wire or edge.
Unplug the rainbow wire from the amp panel (the panel speaker is wired to). now clip the 2 red wires.then clip off the black, white and green wires(as far away from panel as you can) now carefully unscrew the panel (behind outlets) and remove that unit.
Now you can leave the outlets if you want but i cut mine off and attached regular outlets to the wires (look at pics)
Now build a box to suit the way you like. once you got box built and are happy with it Cut the cord off the old unit. you will need to attach it to the panel. the panel needs 110v. if you are going with the original plugs just attach the cord black to black ect. if you added your own plugs you will need to connect the green (ground) to the plugs (you can see it in pics).
now cut the end(plug) off the rainbow wires and strip each one. I used little stove bolts to get current to pass thru the box. just drill 7 holes. wrape each wire around a stove bolt once(looselly) and put bolt thru hole (repeat 6 times) now these little wires are in order. first wire (red) is channel 1 on thru to black wire which is ground! make sure you mark which bolt is which on outside of box.
now just follow instructions on making your parallel cable (found all over this site) Since i found out the hard way that all cables are diffrent for color coded wires its all trial and error!!!! heres how i solved the problem!!
set up vixen, program a song, grab an LED light(i used a replacment bulb from a new set). now load a song into vixen and tap each channel, starting with channel 1 in vixen tap key for 1 minute then tap channel 2 for 1 minute, repeat till you got all 6 channels with dots. save set up ect.
now get ready you gotta be quick. attach one end of LED to ground on cable(usually bare wire) strip all wires from cable a short way. bundle wires in your hand folded down and hit play on vixen. now unfold 1 at a time and touch off LED end to wires till one flashes. MARK IT!!!!!! just repeat this 6 times to find all the ones you need!!!
I know it sounds complicated and time consuming but really its not!!!!
Now that you got all 6 wires and ground just simply wrap each wire (according to number) around treaded side (close to box) of the stove bolts put on a washer and a nut and just give a LITTLE tightness to it.
Just program your music in Vixen and enjoy your new 6 channel box!!!!! any probs just send me an email nvdspd@msn.com put 6 channel box in subject.
Will be posting some sequences for 6 channels soon!!!

it looks like it would be close to being able to be used as SSR modules for most of the DIY boards.

you would just have to cut and reconnect the LED's in the MOC's (white chips) pin 1 and 2 to an RJ45 socket and then you would have an SSR unit ready built. These only usually cater for 4 channels so you would need to use 2 sockets for this to utilize all 6 channels.

pin 1 of the MOC chips need to be connected together and pin 2's of each chip go to the outputs of the Olsen/Grinch etc via a resistor (resistor can be in series with pin 1 or 2)

Hope this helps
