What's up everyone? My name is John, I'm 20 years old. I currently live in the Daytona Beach, Florida area but I'm currently in the process of moving up to Alabama here in the very near future.

I have loved putting up Christmas lights since I was a little kid and I've managed to have one of the bigger static displays in my neighborhood (although that isn't too difficult lol). I love building and working with computers as well and now I finally found a way to mix the 2 together. I've been wanting to do an animated display for over a year now but I still live with my parents and my dad wasn't overly thrilled with the idea.

However, like I mentioned I will be moving out on my own here in the very near future and now nothing is holding me back from doing a display. I already have ideas for 2010 but can't really get started until I know where I'll be living . I am a total rookie with this stuff so please forgive any newbie questions . Looking forward to getting to know ya'll (that's "you all" for those not from the South :p)

Welcome to DIYC, John!

You'll find all kinds of help here for almost any Christmas (or other) lighting project. When you get settled in, it sounds like lighting might be one of your first projects! If so, WATCH OUT! This hobby will grab you and never let go!!!

Welcome, John.

You can do yourself a tremendous favor by buying lights at their cheapest after Christmas this year to be ready for next year. I don't THINK it is possible to have too much stock. If you have your place in the next few weeks, think about what you would like to light, and buy accordingly; otherwise, just stock up in general. Your wallet will thank you next year. :D :D :D
