The other day one of the green LEDs burnt out. It started blinking dim and bright, while the two LEDs in series with it remained brightly lit (there wasn't any serial input at that time). It then became a short, and later on opened up. I replaced it with a 'straw hat' LED just for the heck of it. I think that the latter LED looks better when viewed from an angle, because the edges of the top of the flat LED look sort of funny from off-axis (at perhaps 30-45 degrees).

Has anyone seen similar problems with LEDs from that vendor?

Also, has anyone come up with a nice-looking diffuser that doesn't cause too much dimming (besides the Fresnel lens that DynamoBen suggested)? I'm tempted to go to integrated 3-color RGB LEDs as a workaround, even though there will be brightness and cost issues with that approach.
