can i use a controller to apply and take away 120V AC to a power supply?

let me rephrase... what will happen if i control (rapid on/off) the input voltage to a power supply ....will i harm the PS

still sounds funny to me

Generaly it is better to switch the output side of a power supply than input. problem with switching input side is inrush current. The initial charge up of caps and inductors takes more current than when it is normal operation. Inrush usually only last for a few milliseconds but can be substantial in current draw. If the supply is turned off long enough for the caps and inductors to discharged and then turned back on again the the supply will see the higher current inrush again. Done repeatedly without time for the supply to cool down things might get a little toasty.

thanks
kinda thought something would not be good

was looking for a fast easy way without going into DC controllers
