No Sound 2.1

I just upgraded my old 98SE system from Vixen 2.0 to 2.1 and now I get no sound - except that it appears to be playing the first .5 seconds of the music over and over. I had this problem once before when I had 1.0 but upgrading to 1.1 fixed it. Then when I upgraded to 2.0 it still worked but now it is broken again. The default sound device is Creative SBPCI.

I downloaded the 2.1 zip file again and re-installed but still the same problem.

The background music does not play either - it goes through the playlist but nothing from the speakers. The songs (mp3) play fine with WMP. And they still play with 2.0 (I did not uninstall 2.0).

Any thoughts?

In the "Add Audio" window use the pull down button and choose a different audio device. See if that fixes it.

Hey Wayne..

Yeah, I tried that. But this has probably become a non-issue now as I have trashed the OS in an attempt to set up a dual boot with Windows / Ubuntu. I see in another thread there is some progress in getting Vixen to run under Ubuntu so if I cannot repair the MBR damage to this system I may just scrub Windoze and go for a full Ubuntu install.
