Today I dug holes for the mega tree and for the donation box. I only went about 18" down, as I'm not too concerned with heaving (this is *hard* clay). I pounded rebar diagonally for added strength. When the concrete is cured I'll put the dirt back and then use irrigation covers to hide things.
The mega tree mount uses PVC that the 1 1/4" black iron pipe I'm using for the tree will fit into.
The donation box mount uses a scrap of 1 1/4 black iron pipe. I drilled a hole through the pipe so that I can secure the vertical support with a lock.
