This COOP is now closed

Read Before Posting In This Thread (http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2919) Group buy rules.

By participating in this Group Buy all participants agree to release www.doityourselfchristmas.com, its Owners, Administrators, Moderators or any other staff of any and all liability and waive all rights I may have under all laws and governing bodies. By posting in this thread you agree you are entering a binding contract between the Organizer and the Participant.

This coop is for a complete parts kit for the Renard24ss, Renard16ss and Renard8ss boards. You will also have the option of adding the pcbs for each board for each board.

For a complete description of the RenardSS board series see this thread:

Announcing.. The Renard 'SS' 8, 16, 24 channel controllers. (http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6661)

Duration:

Several week ago I ordered some parts so I could sort w/o the pressure of you all waiting on me (lol). I decided to order more parts today so that I could have enough for the extra interest.

CURRENTLY I have sorted (waiting on pcbs.) and AVAILABLE for shipping.

22 -- ren 24ss kits
5 -- ren 16ss kits
6 -- ren 8ss kits

I expect the pcbs next week and shipping can begin on October 12th. (If all goes as planned)

ON ORDER is enough parts and pcbs for another 30is kits depending on how they are sorted. Some parts were substituted out (per recent post) so that no backorders are currently expected.

The group buy will close when those kits are accounted for. My goal would be to have all orders in your hands by Oct. 31st.

Bill of Materials:

http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=90&pictureid=415

Some parts were substituted on my recent purchace for parts. Here is a list of those parts. The kits I have on hand are all original BOM parts (no subs). Price differences were averaged in for all kits.

Price:
[
"

Parts for this coop. The price below includes paypal, eds/packing supplies and all shipping/handling charges to get the parts to me.

SS24 = 52.50 *** adjusted price $52.80
SS16 = 41.60 *** adjusted price $41.90
sss8 = 29.50 *** adjusted price $29.80

Pcbs will be sourced from Wayne J. These prices include shipping to me and my paypal fees to him to get these.

SS24 pcb = $12.55 each ***adjusted price $12.65
SS16 pcb = $9.25 each ***adjusted price $9.35
SS8 pcb = $7.15 each ***adjusted price $7.25

Shipping:

To keep it simple shipping/paypal is as follows

1 kit/pcb shipping = $5.10
2-4 kit/pcb shipping = $10.00
5-8 kits/pcb shipping = $11.15

Insurance:

For your protection if you wish to have insurance added to the shipping let me know. Other wise it will not be added.

$1.75 for up to $50.00
$2.25 for $50.01 to $100.00
$2.75 for $100.01 to $200.00
$4.70 for $201.01 to $300.00
$5.70 for $301.01 to $400.00
$6.70 for $401.01 to $500.00
$7.70 for $501.01 to $600.00
$ASK for over $600

Great Tip from Omzig's coop

Tip: Many people like to have spare parts of certain key components like triacs. If you are building any SS8's or SS16's, one way to get these spares through this group buy, is to get one or more of your kits as a larger kit. For example, if you are building 4 SS16's, you could get 3 SS16 kits, and 1 SS24 kit, so you will have the spare parts. If you are building all SS24's, you could also pick up an SS8 kit so you will have spares for all of the parts. Credit goes to deplanche for this suggestion.

ALL PIC’s will be programmed with PWM firmware.

Orders: please post with the following information
* # of part kits for a particular board
* # of pcbs for a particular board.
* Shipping insurance yes or no

Example: 2 Ren24ss kits & pcbs -- insurance yes/no

Thank you ahead of time for participating in the coop.

Brad

Heat sink material can be found at about any hardware store. You have to use 1/16" thick material. There is a drill template in the wiki also. ;)

***** Attention ******

Wayne J and I decided to add insurance to the pcb shipment. This will result in a $.10 increase in the pcb price. Edited in the 1st post. Also as carefull as I was in calculating the parts prices I found an error in my formula that will result in $.30 differenct in parts cost per kit. Edited in the 1st post also.

He's had tons of lights up for years and now he wants to take it up to the next level. He asked me to handle assembling the board and parts and I agreed so... Here we go! I would like:

Don't forget, I have printable and MS Word downloadable checklists (http://www.landolights.com/main/content/category/6/25/39/) on my site when you get ready to build these. If you don't have a computer on your workbench to view the excellent assembly instructions in the wiki, you can print my checklists instead.

There are also pictures on how I separated all my parts (http://www.landolights.com/main/component/option,com_ponygallery/Itemid,62/func,viewcategory/catid,30/), and how I built the enclosures (http://www.landolights.com/main/component/option,com_ponygallery/Itemid,62/func,viewcategory/catid,31/) for my SS24s.

The SS boards are for 120VAC only. For a 24 channel board that will work fine in Australia contact "fkostyun". As for the 8, you can replace it with a Xmas 16 available from "wjohn" who is in Australia also. He can also help with the required parts needed for your application. ;)

Welcome to the hobby that has no limits! You've picked a terrific unit to start with -- you'll really like it a lot. Don't hesitate to use the Wiki -- there's a complete section on the SS line of boards that contains construction and testing suggestions, serial cabling tips, and more. There's an incredibly avid support group here for all manner of blinky-flashy activites, so don't be shy about asking for help, either!

I am new to all of this pc controlled christmas lights. However, I do usually have a large display. From what I have been reading on the web and wiki...I gather that I need to start with a controller. I found the Reneard SS 24 while looking online (thinking of ordering it).
If anyone can give me advice or tips on getting started I would be most appreciative. I am good with computers and electronics although not an expert.

Welcome to DIYC!

If you've been at the Wiki, you've been to the right place to start. There's a lot of good information there for folks who are toying with the idea of getting into this hobby which, by the way, is truly a blast!!!

There are several Renard options -- the Ren24 and SS24, and then there are other configurations, too. Renard is slick insofar as you can not only blink/flash lights on and off, you can gradually fade them up or down. You connect them to the computer's serial port, and you can easily control up to about 250+ different "channels" of lights off a single serial port. (Thiink of a channel like a string of lights, or possibly 2 or 3 strings connected together)

Virtually none of the gear here is pre-built -- that's the whole DIYC concept -- you do it yourself. However, the circuitboard, bills of materials, manuals, helpful tips and tricks and an endless supply of enthusiasm are right here, just waiting for you to tap into it.

Again, welcome to DIYC. I'm sure others will chime in here, too!!

ONLY 1 or 2 ren 24 kits left. There may be a couple more after everything is sorted and all payments are accounted for.

I would like 1 SS 24 kit + PCB, and 1 SS 16 kit + PCB if the latter is still available. All this including insurance.

Thanks!

(Wow! I hope this works. This is my first post to a forum ... Ever!

I found your forum late last night, and want to get in on the group buy and spif up out Christmas display. Looks like your Renard SS line is just what I've been needing.

Came home from work to do this. Just signed up on the forum. I haven't yet found how to include PayPal or shipping info for you. Please give me some guidance on that. (Hope I'm not too late. I hope, I hope, I hope!)

Thanks for your help!)

I have just finished sorting everything and will start packing thursday. If I don't run into to many shipping address problems I should be able to ship friday morning.

Same here! I've spent so much time with that tiny preview window that I'm beginning to wonder why I'm doing all this to begin with. Once I have some real lights hooked up, I'm sure I will be happy.

And thanks to Brad for all of your efforts.

Just got my package opened it up and "oh wow" is that a lot of little parts. I am so glad someone took the time to put step by step instructions to assemble with pictures (I'm pretty good with pictures) lol. And thanks again Lizard050 for this I can't imagine what time and work it took to label and pack this stuff. Well wish me luck (my first real build project).

Be careful at steps 8 & 9. Make sure to triple check before soldering them in. I thought I was on a roll and breezing thru everything then when I got to step 8 and screwed up and grabbed the resistors for step 9 (they're in the same bag). So one little mistake led to a night of curseing and fighting with a desoldering bulb an me sitting here for a few days for my mouser order to come in.....LOL

I also got my board and parts monday and got it fully built that night. Everything works great.

I really like how you separated the parts off into packages and marked what part for what step. That made it very simple.

Thanks!!!!!

check to make sure it isnt stuck in the end of the tube they come in, i had a few different chips stick to the tape covering the ends of the tubes, made me think i was missing a few different ones till i noticed that.

Almost got all of one ren 24ss built, getting ready to solder the triacs in. I remember seeing a post recently about the triacs being backwards on the silkscreen layout but dont remember if that was on the SS series or the v3.3 board. Can someone let me know if the SS series is the one in question?

I believe you might be thinking of the SSREz silkscreen issue?

theatretch85
11-09-2009, 08:52 PM
Ah, ok. I wasn't able to find the thread in my quick search, but I just wanted to be sure before I soldered in 24 triacs just to make sure the silkscreen is correct on the renard SS series boards.

Thanks for the reply!

according to that thread it doesn't look like it. Unless you are using a diff rs485 than I sent in the coop.

If the BOM RS485 IC's were used, then no. I'm not sure if Radio Shack carries them, they do have zeeners, but not sure which ones.

Thank you twice, because you also sent me the parts that I ordered from Mouser.

If I can get it work I will let you all know (in 240v).

Just wanted to add my quick thanks to Brad! My SS16 is all put together and working now. The board assembly went fine...the serial cable not so much. I had originally swapped pins 1 and 5 on one of the db9 connectors, thinking both the male and female ends were the same pinouts. Took me about 2 hours to solder up the board, and 4 to troubleshoot the darn serial cable mess!

But without this co-op, I probably would have been too scared to order everything on my own, and probably would not be on the path to a great show this Christmas. So thanks again, Brad!

Got my Ren24 and Ren16 a couple of days ago. Thanks very much for the shipment. Started building the 24 last night. I am impressed with the quality of the PC board. This newbie is looking forward to a new Christmas lighting experience. (OK, I know it's a bit late to get this going, but you gotta start somewhere! Just wait til next year!!)

Also, I could not find a BOM on the renard wiki page for the 24SS?
