Found some 50ft. cables on clearance. Buying 10 or more makes them cheap enough to be worth it. Especially with free shipping.

Picked up qty 10 of the 50 ft cables with connectors and boots on clearance for $3.50 each. They reduced price from $6.50 down to $3.50 if you buy 10 or more. That is $0.07/ft!
If they are too long, will custom cut and add own RJ45 connector.
Thanks for the tip.

I wouldn't do that. If you expand next year, you may need the 50' length. ;)
I got a few of these http://www.yourbroadbandstore.com/product.php?pid=213789 for $2.99 each.

Yes... you are right. I can just coil them up and hide the excess.

That is what I do. I made some short ones the 1st year, 35 footers. Now I have a bunch of 35 foot cables laying around.
Those 50' clearance cables are a good deal, especially if they are stranded.

CAT5e cables just arrived from "yourbroadbandstore.com". I ordered qty 10 - 50 ft grey with boots and RJ45 connectors at $3.50 each. Cables use 24 AWG stranded wire. They were on clearance.
Came in plastic bags bound with twist ties. RJ45s are clear. Tried one out and it works fine.
One issue... they came without boots.
Have sent email to customer service.... waiting for response.
Will keep you posted.

That's probably a blessing in disguise. Those boots make it so hard to remove the cables easily, especially in the cold.

That is what I am thinking...boots may not be needed. The RJ45s will be up inside the enclosure... protected anyway. Cable sheath is good quality and flexible with stranded wires.
Just wanted to warn the forum that their's may also not have any boots if that is really important to them. Also wanted to let store know there is a mix-up in product and advertising.
The online entry says in title "Cat5e Patch Cable With Boots 50 Ft Grey". In the description it says, "Ethernet patch cable constructed from quality Cat5e cable and 8P8C RJ45 connectors with snagless boots". In the Features it says, "Non-booted, flexible patch cable". Finally, my invoice says "with boots". There is one reference to non boots" as you can see. I missed that.
To boot or not to boot?... that is the question. (Hmmmm....sounds familar).
No sweat though... it will be fine.

If Shakespeare had been a member of DIYC, he would have changed Hamlet to perhaps have become, Omelet?
(Now that's food for thought! - sorry, couldn't resist...)
To boot, or not to boot: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the field to suffer
The sparks and dangers of outrageous voltage,
Or to take care against a nest of wires,
And by connecting end them? To blink: to flash;
Yet more; and by the blinky say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flush through the hair, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd.

An idea to kick around..... I have a lot of cat5 cable that I run (over 90 cables). They are zip tied in groups. What I do when running the cable or tearing down, is to use a freezer bag and stuff all of the ends in the bag and tape it up so the clips don't snag anything while pulling the cable.

Great idea. Anything to keep the little lock clip from snagging anything... like my hand.
I have a tendancy to slide cable through my hand as I am coiling them up. I have been bitten by the occaisional tie wrap or plastic clip now and then. I now use gloves for big jobs.

For the tie wraps, you can use what is called "flush cut" snips. They are like wire cutters, but the blades will do what they are clled, cuts way down on zip tie cuts. You do have to be aware, a lot of times, regular wire cutters are called flush cuts, but do leave that 1/16" that gets you, but there is some that literally cut flush.
You can also just make a set if you have a spare pair of cutters by grinding the blades down until the recess is gone. They won't be good for wire any more, but will cut zip ties very nice. Just don't turn the metal blue while grinding, this will take the temper out of the blades, take your time and and cool with light oil.

Thanks for the idea on the cutters. Sounds like you too have been snagged. I will watch the color of the steel as I grind.
It seems like lately some of the manufacturers have been putting tags on the ext cords with tie wraps. I usually just clip them off.

Just heard back from "yourbroadbandstore.com" and they admitted there is an error in the invoice text and on their site. Offered refund if I wanted to send back. I will keep them since boots are not that important in my application.
