Our front house has about 6 windows. 4 of which are in a cluster, and the other 2 in a cluster.

There is going to be minimal light in these at all times, will this be an issue for the show?

How has anyone else fixed this. I Can't have all the lights off in my house for 3-4 hours..

Close the blinds and get heavy black out curtains.

Its what we do to to make our shows extra special.

I use blackout curtains myself.

Why would you do that? I guess I don't get making your house look like nobody lives there. The whole idea is to be festive. Festivities means people. Unless you are talking about making your house more creepy for halloween.

Put enough of the show lights in the windows and you won't notice the inside lights.

That sounds like a good idea,

and now that I think about it buzzkill is right, we don't want to make the place deserted... they can deal with a couple people walking by every now and then :P

The only time I turned off lights in the house was when I took photos of the Christmas lights. Besides it's the height of summer here and there ain't no way I'm shutting/covering windows and doors! Seems a little excessive to me to disturb your life inside your house for Christmas lights. I'm in the don't worry about it camp.

PUt red and green cellophane up on the windows, and it will look Christmas-y? Nice red and green glow?

I know they have colored self-stick food wrap...

The one room that is especially important to me is the aquarium room - theres 1500 watts of lights in there on from 6pm to midnight.

Without the curtains - the living room and the office have this bright blue hue to them!

Sounds like a fishy excuse to me.

(Sorry, couldn't help myself.)

I with toodles. Some nights the front door is open all night 'cause it so hot.
Our lounge room is at the front of the house so we actualy make a feature of it with the Christmas Tree in front of the window with lights on it.

A little bit off topic and no doubt this happens all over but some homes actually create dioramas in their front windows with solid wood walls behind them. Look very impressive and invite people to walk right up to the window.

Can you connect that to an SSR, so the fish become part of the blinky flashy? :)

No, I haven't....

but on the other hand, those who have experienced the sheer delight in opening their adolescent son's hockey equipment bag after a weekend of games understand why they often end up viewing the ceiling...

So I've got THAT goin' for me!!!

No, I haven't....

Take 6 eggs, put in a ball jar and seal, shake jar to break eggs. Put eggs in sun for 1 week, then open and sniff!

And back to the point at hand - if you don't want it to look dismal, just consider regular curtains over the blinds, a little bit of light will show through, but it will not a "hi, here I am" bright.

This year my living room will need a little more "work" as I will be using a virtual santa with a projector.

Hehe I bet you're family will enjoy that.

Walking through the living room:

Just so's you know...you can vary the recipe a bit...works just as well, with only four eggs.

Yeah, heaps of people do it in town here. Some better than others . . . . I don't because the windows aren't at a sensible viewing level. The Myer store here used to have great "animated windows" at Christmas time unfortunately they stopped doing it when they renovated about 10 years ago. I guess a store window full of animatronic Christmas figurines doesn't sell as much as window full of designer crap. :)

Actually I’ve got a little Christmas projector – all it is a plastic disk with a Christmas scene backlit by an LED enclosed in a cool looking plastic case. Got it on sale last year, I’m going to try and project that on to one of the curtains. So there’s an option, see if you could project an image, even just a solid colour on to your curtains – room stays lit but the window’s a little festive.

I have 4 six foot tall windows on the front of my house. Each window gets a 5ft mini tree (the artificial pine tree type) with lights of its own. That way the light from inside the house is blocked by the tree and from the outside all you see is a lit up tree in the window. I might make these blinky-flashy but that is waaaaay down my list of to do's for this inagural (sp) season.

As for smelly, buy 1lb fresh shrimp to use as bait. Place in tackle box. After fishing, forget leftover shrimp still in tackle box. Store tackle box in closet. Return one week later and wonder "what the....?!".
