Are there any known issues when using DMX with Vixen 2.1.1? I am having a terrible time trying to get anything to work. I am using Phils DMX code and plugging the pics into a REN16.

I assume that should work.

Thanks for any input.

2.1 is what I was using when I got DMX working on the Renard, so I don't think it's vixen. Can you describe your setup a bit more (plugin, wiring, etc.).

Ditto here. The only problems I had were in the begining and that was only configuration issues.

***EDIT***
After re-reading the initial post I think I mis-understood the question. Are you running some kind of DMX code with Renard? I was running DMX but not with Renard. I had DMX going out the USB to all my DMX stuff and was running Renard out the serial port using an adapter (off the top of my head and kicking the cobwebs. RS232-RS422 I think???)

Oops,... Sorry

I am using Phils version of PIC for DMX plugged into a renard board. USB from computer to RPM's dongle and 485 to renard.

Thanks.

Have you made a custom cable to convert the wiring from the Renard standard to the DMX standard?

Yes, and then built a new one and still no joy.

Thanks

I'm assuming you're using the Entec DMX USB Pro set to the virtual COM port the the dongle created?

I'm also assuming that the Renard worked fine prior to using the DMX code?

I'm trying to think of what else to check. Do you have anything else that can receive DMX to ensure that your dongle is working properly?

Yes Device Manager shows the USB converter, drivers and in my case is com 3.

Yes Vixen is set to the port that was created. I understand that there are no settings that need to be set for the com port: speed, 8n1 is that correct?

The Renard works normally before I replace the PIC with the PIC programmed with DMX, and normally when PIC is changed back to normal.

Unfortunately I do not have any other DMX device to test with, any thoughts?

Thanks,
Al

Are the pics programmed properly? The 1st pic on each renard board should be programmed with the start address for that board. Every other pic on that board should be addressed as 1.

Yes the first PIC is address 1 as are the rest. I am trying just one address now. I have tried with first PIC address 201 for example and the rest add.1 no success.

I have tried first PIC address 1 and no other PICs installed, still no work.

At this point I am looking to buy, rent, borrow some type of DMX light as a reference to try and isolate the error.

Is there anything that has to be done in Vixen to make sure a channel turns on. Not very familiar with DMX but keep hearing about "blackout", does that need to be turned off-on?

Just grasping at straws now.

Thanks for your response and I really appreciate the help everyone is contributing.

Al,

Have you solved your Renard DMX issues?

Yes I have sorry for the extremely delayed response. I have been very busy doing you know what, blinky-flashy.

Thanks again for all your support.
Happy Holidays,
