View Full Version : Beware lights at Overstock.com

All,

I just wasted $8 in return shipping after ordering 2000 LED lights from overstock.com. The LED lights they show on their site seem to be the typical LEDs you would buy at any retailer. However, what was sent to me are the really cheap 'fairy' lights with all of the LEDs permanently attached to the wires without sockets.

These are for sale in 1000 light increments.

They also stated they sent me 2000 lights but really only sent 1000.
Yet another battle. They obviously have some product problems with this item.

Ill play dumb and am going to assume that these lights are 110-120 VAC and not low voltage? otherwise would be good buy here also

I was thinking the same thing too. LV LEDs are still so expensive here.

Update:

I have been contacted by a special group at overstock.
I'll let you all know how it goes on Monday when everyone is back at work.

Yes, the LEDs were 120v.
I was basically getting a 100ct string for $9.
This is a good price for a 'typical' string.

For us that equates to about $30 at least per 100 for us.Do the strings work in 50ct sections, 2 sections for 120V?And how many lines run through. Is there 2 lines or 3 lines after Bulb 1? Just thinking its not hard to modify them to 24V.

I can't say how they are constructed because they are the wrong LEDs.
They are already packed up and going back, so I can look at them again, sorry.

I wont buy at overstock.com anymore because an issue I had with them about price matching. Now it seems I waste my time each time I visit.

This is the exchange after I sent my request. "Heidi" just pasted and copied the same reply to my second email so I did not include the first response.

Agent Reply (Heidi B.)02/27/2009 05:00 PMHello Rodney

I would like to thank you for shopping with Overstock.com. I am sorry to hear that you found the Wii - Bolt at a lower price on another website.

After reviewing your price challenge for this item, I have found that it does not qualify for the price match since the base price of the item must be a difference of at least $5.00.

At Overstock.com, we make every effort to offer our customers the lowest prices on quality, name-brand merchandise. We realize we may not be the lowest priced on-line store every time. In the event our price is slightly higher than our competitor's we welcome the opportunity to review our pricing and beat a valid competitor's best offer. I have included a link to our Online Best Price Match Policy for you to view at your convenience.

Rodney

Thank you for your reply. These days if I can find items plus shipping that differ in just pennies between reputable online retailers, I absolutely go with the lower price. The policy you state is flawed and you have lost a sale. First, because the response time for your reply was absolutely ridiculous and second, because of the poor response time I have already purchased the title at Amazon.com. Frankly, I thought you forgotten about my price match request.

Furthermore, I find that I use Overstock.com less with each passing day because when I compare identical items, I can routinely find them less costly elsewhere.

Regards,

Chuck

Agent Reply (Stefanie B.)03/05/2009 06:44 PMDear Rodney,

Thank you Stephanie. I thank you for not just detailing the same rhetoric as the last two respondents. I read those rules concering the pricematch guarantee and that is why I decided to respond. Folks are folding up their wallets more and sticking it back into their pockets. We shop around for the best deal. I'm sure you try to find the lowest prices as well. Overstock.com used to be the "go-to" place for the best deals. Though now I find it hard to believe that your items are overstock merchandise anymore with the posted prices.

Mrs B., I don't really know why I keep answering these emails, but it infuriates me that in order to get a pricematch that YOUR site ecouraged me to apply for was refused because I did not click on a link to an obsure part of the site and read a list of requirements that limited the availability of the pricematch because the other retailer's price was not discounted enough. I dont seem to be getting it through that Overstock.com is not "PRICEMATCHING" unless they match the price that is found on the other retailer's site. If you say you will match the prices,... do so. No exceptions. THAT is pricematching.

Agent Reply (Stefanie B.)03/05/2009 08:50 PMHello Rodney,

Thank you for contacting Overstock.com to let us know of the difficulty you experienced with your order. I apologize that the our service was unsatisfactory. I can understand your frustration since your price match inquiry was denied.

Overstock.com is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service. When an issue arises, we strive to do everything we can to resolve the concern to your satisfaction. Rodney, I have noted your account stating I am making an one-time exception to our policy and allowing the price match. To receive the discount please call us at 1-800-THE-BIGO to place your order.

Please accept my sincere apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience we may have caused. I hope you will give us another chance to provide you with the service you expect and deserve.

If I may be of further assistance, please let me know and I will be happy to help.

Sincerely,

Thank you for the offer. It is very generous considering Overstock.com's policy.
But as stated in earlier coorespondence, I have purchased the Game title already and do not care for an additional copy.

There was more before this but I must have cleared my sent box. I really need to clear it again.

Folks,

I don't want this thread to turn into an overstock bashing.
So, please don't hijack the thread to that end.

That wasn't the point of my original post. I was simply trying to warn folks off of buying these LEDs strings that were not as advertised.

I, in fact, have been an overstock customer for years and have never had a problem.

Folks, No more posts in this thread of bad experiences that would be of a different subject.

Ukewarrior you said that you lights were fairy. Would you say they were the same size as the conical LEDs you can get at Wal-Mart or were these lights smaller?

Final Post:

The folks at overstock bent over backward to take care of me.
I have all of my money back and did not have to spend any of my own money.

It was an easy to make mistake on their part.

I will continue to shop there!
