Hi

2 issues I am having

1. I have been having trouble getting the correct current from my parallel port to drive the MBI chips in my grinch, I installed a diode in series to the power supply for the voltage but I think the issue is not enough current still. I will have to use the buffer chip solution I have seen on here before. Can someone give me any other chip numbers that are known to work beside the 2 in this link http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5648&highlight=voltage+solution

2. Doing the coninuity checks in the troubleshooting guide(and I think the pcb continuity checks should be a lot closer to page 1 of the guide!) It states that pin 3 of UC1 should short to all the pin 5's of the output RJ45's and likewise pin 4 of UC1 to te pin 7's of the outputs. My board has no continuity between those contacts at all. There does not appear to be any tracing to connect these contacts either. Am I supposed to jumper them somehow?

Any help from masterminds appreciated

Possibly what is in the troubleshooting guide:

I believe you are mis-reading the guide. From the guide:

Check pin 3 on U1 IC socket, should be:

Shorted to all other IC sockets pin 3
Shorted to pin 5 of RJ45 IN & RJ45 OUT connectors
Check pin 4 on U1 IC socket, should be:

Shorted to all other IC sockets pin 4
Shorted to pin 7 of RJ45 IN & RJ45 OUT connectors
These steps are referring only to the IN and OUT (as marked on the PCB) data connectors, not to the output connectors to the SSRs.

Possibly what is in the troubleshooting guide:

It only references to one chip in the guide but I see from the link I posted above there are several other options.

I believe you are mis-reading the guide. From the guide:

You are correct, I was misreading it. I thought when it stated output connectors plural it referred to all RJ45 outputs. My mistake. Thanks

Thanks for the reply
