View Full Version : Logo?
I like the logo and all, but since this site isn't specific to Vixen, should we design a new logo for the top left-hand corner? What if we organized a contest to see who could come up with the best one?

True, this is not a site just for Vixen. However the Vixen forum has been moved over to here and almost everything we do is "controlled by Vixen" so I feel it is fitting.
As always this is open for discussion so lets see what others have to say. I added a poll to see the direction the group want to take.

Could the current Vixen logo simply represent the DYI efforts, software and hardware? Simply remove the "controlled by" references.

How about expanding it, I'm partial to Brians Christmas tree.
How about the tree with the Vixen logo incorporated to the upper right as if the reindeer was flying/leeping over the tree. Need to add text DIY Christmas somewhere also.

I would be willing to give it a shot, but I would need a bigger picture of the tree (Macrosill's).

I guess some of the logo design would depend on if we are going to get a domain and what it will be.

Ernie,
Could you modify the image above?
I am thinking we can move the tree to the right and "Christmas to the left. The tree may have to go a little lower to clear "Do It Yourself". Then change the domain to www.DoItYourselfChristmas.com and make it a little smaller so it will fit.
Any thoughts? Or should we go with a completely different design? I am partial to the connectivity of the forum/site and Vixen.

Why not change it from time to time... like google. That would open the floor to anyone that wants to take a crack at making a logo. I want to take a shot, but don't have time to work it up. Will later though...

Matt,
That is a nice idea. I would have no objections to doing something like that.
Ernie,
That looks great! Thanks.
edit: The new logo is up and running.

I couldn’t see the “Controlled by Vixen” part very well when the logo was smaller, so I came up with another one. Just as I was going to up load the second one, my internet connection to my house stopped. So here it is a couple of hours later. :?

Here's another one. Maybe these will help with ideas. I'm certainly open for suggestions.

No man, keep them coming they are great!
the last one is sweet. i really like it. i think it really goes with the whole idea. it is not usual to see a reindeer dozing Christmas gifts. you don't always see a house with synced lights during Christmas.

If this goes forward there may have to be some design elements that need to be included in the design itself.
I think it would be fun.
I would like to contribute but I'm not near my design software. In a few days I may have something worthwhile.

I think the 2 elements that are key to the community at this point are the Reindeer that signifies Vixen and the blue tree that everyone likes so much.

I wonder where the idea for the blue tree came from?
Macrosill

It was not my idea. Some suggested it and it seems to have taken off from there.
We could use a red or green tree if you want. Not that I would know where to get a pic of one of those from.

Let's not overlook the "Do It Yourself" aspect of the site. That may be able to be worked into the image.

Actually I suggested using it in post 4 of this thread. And Ernie just ran away with the Idea, and I like it. :D

a schnauzer with antlers. I like it. I still like the idea of the rotating logo. So a different one every day.

A different logo everyday? Oh man, I have alot of work ahead of me!

Could the code on the web page be written to insert a different logo daily from a folder of logos in a queue?
Macrosill

Anything is possible. I will need to research it to see if anyone has done it before. This might not be an easy task as most entities make a logo and keep it to build a recognizable identity. But we are not the usual online crowd.
Let me see what I can come up with.

I know that everytime I logged into Computer Christmas, the welcome screen photo rotates to a different image. Maybe something like that.

You could also pick a random one every time a page is loaded or reloaded, like Hill does on the main page of CC.

I got the Random Logo working. Each time you visit the forum the index page should show a random logo from the collection we have. Sometimes it is possible the same logo will be posted twice or more in a row as it is supposed to be random.
Should you want your logo design to be featured make one up, it can be a jpg or a gif.

I see that it works on any page now. I got more, just got to get them out of my head; they're in there somewhere.

I've just placed them in this thread at 640 by 480 and let Brian take it from there.
Edit:
I linked to the picture that I stored on Imageshack.

I will start a new thread just for posting the images. Once they are posted I will copy them and then resize and upload them to the server.

Since we are all about the Blinky Flashy !, I've uploaded an animated version of Ernie's design in the 'Site Logo images' thread.
Enjoy

Thanks Ernie. I'm glad you liked it.
I used Paint Shop Pro to seperate the elements and Animation Shop to create the animated gif.
There actually wasn't that much work in seperating the bits I needed.
Did the same with my signature.

From 'SITE LOGO IMAGES' thread... (moved out to keep that thread as discussion free as possible)
It appears that once the animated gifs are resized the animation is lost. ......
Hi Brian,
Editing an animated gif, whether it is changing pixels or resizing, drops all frames except the first. I noticed that my one for example, which is images/random_logo/forumlogo4.gif, (I know this because I made the lights on the tree slightly different) now has a size of 9K instead of the original 194K, so it's only showing the first frame. A side note on mine also - it only cycles 3 or 5 times (I can't remember exactly which).
To rectify this you need to copy the original into the random_logo folder and rename it accordingly. (or vice-versa)
Cheers

Dave,
I apologize for my mistake. I did not realize you had sized the original file 160x117. I will take care of that right now.
