add "http://cydia.hackulo.us" to your sources.
And download "appsync"

Installation:
Once you have appsync installed download the zip below and extract the .ipa file inside.
double click it or drag it into itunes.
it should show up under applications in itunes like anyother app.
then install the app to your jailbroken iphone or ipod touch.

done!

Description:
Ivixen is a app that allows one to control vixen clients that are connected to a vixen server.
what we have feature wise right now it the ability to connect to the server and view the sequences on the server.
you cant click the sequence to play them yet.
that will be the next feature.
there is a play function that lets you start stop and pause the clients.

Known issues:

Issue: Ivixen does not load sequences with spaces Example: "jingle bell.vix" will not load "jingle_bell.vix" will load.
Issue: no visual out put in the app about the channels status

Very cool! Is the idea that you touch the buttons on the screen to turn the Vixen player on and off, or can you use guestures so that you just wave your hand around (while holding the iPhone) to get blinky, flashy?

That would be a cool feature but no. right now its just clicking the button makes the server play or stop a sequence on the server. Josh was talking about a feature that does that to lol.

I added it as a general feature "suggestion" - it's not a formal request on my own behalf since I have too many other projects under way already this year.

I accidentally labelled it as a "defect" instead of feature request in Google - I don't know how to change it. Sorry about that.

Hey James,
Do i get an Iphone for testing purposes? :P On a MORE serious note, is this Itouch compatible?

Just wanted to post up, Any and all request and help is appreciated. James does most the dirty work as i am no programmer.

I would also like to point out a quick note. None of our "programs" are a light control software, They are just interfaces, to use Vixen K.C. has worked hard, and its his baby, we just want to be able to use it on all our gadgets.

also. yes this app works for both the iphone and ipod touch. im blessed to have an ipod touch for development and a friend with an iphone for compatibility testing.

if you wanna learn to make an app or look over the code you could download winchain =P

you should check out ebay or something or we could see about donations for testing equipment.

New Version of Ivixen with image fixes has been released.

Yes The ipod touch need to be jailbroke.

There are jailbreaks for the ipod touch and the ipod touch 2nd gen aswell as both iphones.

also if you have installer on your iphone you can add our repo to it and download the app off there.

it is only for jailbroken ipod untell i feel like its good enough to submit to apple.

to add the app use winscp to connect to your iphone or touch and go to the applications fold and copy ivixen.app from the zip file to the device.

there are tons of tutorials on how to add apps.

google "how to ssh app's on to your iphone" you could to ipod touch but they are the same.

we have done more on the app by adding the ability to select sequences and launch them on the server.

this hasnt been fully implimented yet but i now have the code we are just waiting to get a mac so we can add it in with the rest of the code.

Well iv gotten a mac running at home now and have some what recovered from un-employment enough to start development again.

iv already build a part of the app that will let you pick a sequences and play it. this hasnt been added to the release and the repo is gonna be changed to a site thats always up unlike my personal one.

Yea the dev site has been down due to power issues. you can get the code from here ivixen - Google Code (http://code.google.com/p/ivixen/)
im trying to keep that site up to date.

as for the app store. i dont know when or if i will get the app signed. if i do get it signed the plan would be to set it at 99 cents to pay for the licence then it will be set back to free when thats paid.

This would be great if it had ability to test the outputs this way you could use it while setting up your display to turn on/off outputs to confirm that you have it wired correctly / testing.

okay so the new repo is being setup and im putting a zipped version of the app on google code. also the source is updated on the server(its very messy)

the new repo should be ivixen.hostzi.com/repo/ it could change to repo.ivixen.hostzi.com if it does ill set it up so that both work

well after digging around i find that installer is no longer supported. they have switched to icy which uses APT repos like cydia.

they are a pain to set up but im looking to see how to.

OK...I used redsn0w to jailbreak my iphone. I downloaded iVixen from the google site. Then I used i-Funbox to copy ivixen to the Raw file system "Applications" folder. After a reboot of my phone, the iVixen icon appears on the menu. When I select it, the screen goes black, and then the menu pops up again, as if the app tries to open and then shuts down. Is the version on google really the latest version, or did I do something wrong in getting it onto my phone?

As far as I can tell its the older version still. The SVN also appears to be the older version.

The .6 version does work properly on my iPhone 3g w/ os 3.0 though. No issues there, just hoping for sequence selections.

Another neat thing would be some sort of "Trigger" support.

Hmm well. your right. i didnt put up a zipped version of the new app. when i get home ill make sure to do that.

so here we go.

the new zipped version will be up by tommaro morning and hopefully by the end of the weekend i will have a cydia/icy repo up.

also i need to make the sequences load able to clients which will take some more time and coding.

right now you cause pause, stop and play all the clients connected to the server and view all the sequences on the server but arnt able to load them to a client.(right now its more of a step in the right direction)

feature requests can be put in the issues category of the google code page

wow i thought this was funny so i thought i would share.

i was sitting at my desk thinking"hmm i should put up some pitures of the app actualy working" i set up vixen and vixen server open the app on my ipod and lo and behold i have an older version.

just thought that was funny as i am the one building the app and didnt even have it on my ipod.

im really looking forward to getting this out to the community!

okay a couple of notes.

when you hit sequence it takes awhile to load and looks like it freezes and the button stays blue. this is normal! if it fails it will go back to the main screen and there will be a "connection fail" label.

before i post it im gonna try to add a loading screen or a wheel
(id like to do a loading screen with elves working but that will come later)

also screen shot are to come! they would have been in this post.

well due to a server side issue with vixen we cant call a sequence to a client. the http command to do so is

http://(your serverip):41402/(client)/command.html/action=retrieve&scope=remote&type=sequence&name=(sequence name)

this is however broken.

anytime you use it you get a error saying "No object File name Specified"

im gonna try to email KC about it to see if he has plans to fix it with the new release

well after lossing my fiancee and getting ahold of an iphone 3g i have messed with the program abit. im looking at having another release by friday.

things that should be added:
Playing of a sequences when you select one.
this will be a 1.1 update i believe

Maybe: the ability to select what client to send it to. currently the default will be "vixen" which is the name vixen comes with

I started Re-vamping the UI and adding a shake function.

UI:
Im cleaning it up and adding a settings button to the bottom left that will let you put in your servers IP, Clients name and, Max number of channels. it will also save this info so you don't have to keep typing it in when you restart the app

Shake function:
its a window you can go to that makes it to where when you shake the iphone/ipod touch it will turn on/off random lights.

Channel Function:
another function i was just thinking about as i'm typing that was what this app was originally going to let the user control each channel for trouble shooting. ill look more into this(its not hard its just hard to make it look nice).

the shake window will be the snow globe that acutaly has snow that is made when you shake it or it will be the vixen loading screen house with blinking lights on it

the settings and sequences will have a diffrent color.

ladies and gentlemen, we have the 1.2 update on cydia.

there is now a way to save setting in vixen and a way to test channels.

Josh should be getting his ipod sometime this week so we will be able to get out a manual as soon as he figures out how it all works.(hopefully i made it simple and i can explain it).

MAJOR ISSUE!!!

about an hour ago i found out that if you install the app using cydia it doesnt load the settings>ivixen

im work as hard as i can to find out why this is and hope to release a new version by the end of the day.

Well i figured out a way to fix the settings for ivixen not appearing.

down side is it means i have to recode the whole setting code i already have with code that is made to work with jailbroken iphones/ipod touchs.

okay so here it goes.

version 1.6

We fixed the issue of the setting not appearing when installed over cydia by removing the option to install over cydia. i know most will install it anyway and think "hey it installed"you can be sure it will not work.

the new way we will be installing the app will be via itunes using there install file format.

To get started you will need to go into cydia and uninstall ivixen.
next you will need to go and add the http://cydia.hackulo.us repo and install appsync

what this does is let us install apps using the appstores installer with out the apps haveing to be signed.

then comes the easy part.

you dont load the attached file and double click it. it will put it into itunes and you can then install the app like anyother app.

easy huh?

now we will be looking into getting it work with cydia or rock.
but for now this works.

the version number changed from 1.02 - 1.06 due to bad fixes and then when we got to 1.5 i figured id make sure itunes caught version changes and thus 1.06 it is

ok I got it setup thanks. Not entirely sure if its working since my controller isnt finished yet though. Also heads up, after you select "channels" on the next screen where it shows them all ( in iVixen) The "channels" title header is spelled wrong (typo).

Just thought id pop in and say that bug's(including typos) should be submitted on the google code page.

added the bug about the typo and that will be fixed next week(or it may be pushed aside tell more bugs are found or a feature is added)

next week im thinking about adding a shake feature that someone suggested a while back.
I also wanna add a on/off indicator to show what the client is doing. this was suggested by josh.
problem right now is i cant get it to save the status between view changes and scrolling.

iv also been talking to KC abit about maybe working out some way to get some more server/client status.

I just wanted to let you know I am extremely excited to try this out. I have a jailbroken ipod Touch 2g with 3.0 firmware that is jailbroken (I hope to update this to current this weekend). I plan on putting an extra router in the room closest to the street to repeat my house WIFI signal and reach into the street. My show has a christmas themed show that runs normally and a non christmas themed one so I hope to beable to drive up when I am showing someone and change the show from the christmas one to the non christmas show.

We were able to successfully install IVixen on the iPod. From the iPod we can see the loaded sequences, but we don't seem to have any control. The Vixen server logs our access attempts and requests, but nothing happens. After issuing several commands we see an error message about access to the COM port is denied, leading us to believe that the plugin hasn't unloaded before it tries to load it again.

Any ideas?

Hmm thats odd.

are you using a profile? the only reason i would think that wouldn't work is cause something on the vixen side.

try seeing if you get the same issue when using the remote client in vixen.

Indirect Control is already being done by someone working with lboucher. I didn't have time to be a tester, but I know other have done some stuff. I believe it works just like his Andorid app. If you haven't seen it, it let's a visitor to your display control your lights using the touchscreen on their Android or iPhone/Ipod Touch (I believe this is being tested)

Who knows? Maybe someone will come up with a way to link our iPhones to our controllers! That would be pretty cool!

Oh yeah, I remember now. I remember seeing a video of him testing it out with his visualizer in vixen. Looked really cool, but I don't have an Android phone (or an iPhone for that matter) (yet :D )
