I am currently using a Computer Power Supply for all my testing. I made a bench power supply out an old 500 Watt Computer PS. I wondering if these are good for long-term use. How is the power capacity separated across the 3.5,5, and 12 volt lines? Can I use the to drive 12V DC Lights such as LED MR-16s?

I have a number of 250W-500Watt power supplies. They provide great power for a bench, but want to understand the downsides before I rely on them.

Also, Microcenter quite often has Power Supplies for almost next to nothing after rebate. I didn't buy any, but a few months ago, they them for $4.99 for a 500W after $20 rebate. I also noticed a 750W on the return shelf for $9 the other day.

The current needed to run the LEDS is so low. That supply would be good to supply most likely more MR16s than you are planning to run. Last year I ran 48 off of a computer supply and never even came close to challenging the limit. In fact this year I plan to double the number and will still run them off the same supply. Hope that helps.
