So I contacted Allegro about a supplier who had the Allegro A6279EA-T in stock. Turns out a company called Nu Horizons http://www.nuhorizons.com/ has over 2,000 of them, for $1.50 a piece.

I placed an order on Wednesday and got them on Friday.
There is a minimum dollar amount you must spend, so I ended up buying enough chips to do 5 boards based on the minimun amount.

Thought I would share this information for anyone looking for Allegro chips!

I simply ordered samples of it direct from allegro, received 6 of them in around 3 days.

I contacted Nu Horizons although they were out of stock. I placed an order for the Allegro which will ship at the beginning of Feb. 2008. There is a minimun order. I had to buy 90 chips, so I will have extra when they arrive. Well I get them I will be more than happy to sell the excess. I don't yet know the final price, but the chip ex tax and shipping is $1.15 each.

Ill keep you posted.

I am using a sub made by ST as I could not find an Allegro chips around
I have the Part # listed on the Bill Journey topic. P. Shocker uses them and suggested them to me.

Here is the ST Part # STP16C596B1R the only thing I found so far is that the Min Voltage is higher than the Allegro

i just placed an order with nu horizions for some other stuff.

the situation seems to be $100 min order and $40 shipping if you talk to the guys here.

thats US $ btw,

also buying singles of the allegro chip they are $1.95 each. so if you bought $100 worth it would go down i guess.

When I rung Analog they really did not consider a $200 order (which I wanted to do on the spot) as big enough to even spend time on. They said (to paraphrase) "Your a little order. We dont stock them or sell them, and your $200 order is not worth my time, Goodbye" and they hung up.

Hopefully my 6 chips are on the way as the order said they were :D

I did a purchase through NU-Horizans. I purchased 90 chips at $1.15 per chip. Shipping and tax was $24 for a total of $127.50. Maybe we need a coop order to help out the folks outside the US. I don't have a clue what shipping charges would be. Anyone have any thoughts.
