Hi all,
After not working on sequencing for much of the summer, I need to get back to work. Porblem is, now I'm encountering problems with the audio when playing the music with Vixen. This didn't happen a few months ago, and I haven't change anything with respect to Vixen in that time.
It sounds like the audio is "skipping" - almost like the computer can't keep up. (It's a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo, so I don't think that's the case.) The song plays fine through Windows Media Player - only Vixen has the problem. (Tried multiple songs and they all have the problem.)
Any suggestions on what to look at? I tried installing a new copy of Vixen, but the problem is still there.
Thanks.
Mark

Some have suffered from this exact thing in the past, my self included. I do not remember the cause but I will search for it.
edit: no luck searching for it. I checked the old forum and came up empty handed. I believe it had to do with the music file type.
What type of file is that music file?

It's .wma
I tried a different song thats .mp3 and had the same problem.

Mark; Try shutting down some of the stuff in the back ground. These programs althoug thay may not be running thay still alocat and use up your RAM that may be needed to play music. AI

Try disabling the visualizer. It seems to take a lot of CPU power to turn a lot of dots on an off.
If that works, you might try running the visualizer in full screen mode. It seems that it takes even more CPU power to change both the visualizer and the sequence grid at the same time. I find this is true with Vixen 2.0 also.

Sorry, none of the suggestions had any effect. I don't think it really has anything to do with the computer not keeping up. ( Like I said, this is a 1.8GHz dual core machine. The 500MHz beast running W2K isn't having issues.) That's just me trying to be descriptive of what the audio sounds like. The "static" is actually too regular to be caused by a compute shortage.
Thanks for the suggestions though. Does anyone know if the music player is purely a part of Vixen or is there a major .NET component? I'm trying to figure out if I should just remove and re-install Vixen or if I may have to do the same to .NET.

I know this issue has come up before but I can not find it or remember the cause or solution. Give KC some time to chime in here before you do anything drastic.
is it due to bit rate? what is the bit rate on the songs that are causing the problem?
You initially mentioned "skipping"...does it repeat a small portion of the audio, that sort of skipping? Or does it leave portions out?

Mine is the portions missing kind.

FYI, switching to 2.0 fixed my audio problems.

Well I have tried Black Vipers tweaks for turning off background services and different bit rate mp3s and had no luck. Tried Vix 1 beta 2 and beta 3. Music still skips. Funny thing is I don't have this problem w/ my laptop, which I use to sequence.
