i found some adapters on ebay and on another site that would allow me to turn my parrallel port to the rj45 and was wandering if these would work for the grinch. or is it just easier to fallow the wiki directions

that is what I used for my 595's last year. They work great just make sure you do a correct pin out.

The wiki directions aren't hard. I got the bare db25 parts from radio shack and just soldered the wires from the ethernet cable. Works great.

I picked up a ethernet jack (small white plastic box) that normally goes to the wall for connecting cable running inside your walls. Inside it has screw terminals that are all labeled. I then chopped an old scanner/printer cable and mapped the wires to the appropriate terminals. This way I could change the distance of my computer and Grinch by swapping the patch cable. I maybe spent 15 minutes total to make it.

Yes, they work. Many have used them. I personally use old printer cables and put the rj45 on the end of it.
