Does anyone know where I can get a Gerber format file for the Latest Grinch controller with power led & the SSR's in Gerber format as well?
I really need them so I can get a run of boards made locally.
Sincerely
Jim

People in this group (myself included) have generally been holding gerber files close to the vest. I'm not sure if wjohn is handling this the same way or not.

Is there any particular reason? I'm just a Ret USAF guy wanting to build a few of these but I have not been able to find anyone with boards to sell me so I thought I would get some made up at a local shop.
I'm not trying to get on anyones bad side either as I'm new here. If there were anything I could do to entice someone to part with the Gerb files for the Grinch & SSR's I could offer an affiliate link at a few of my sites for their company for say 6 months or so.
As I say I'm a retired U.S.A.F. Tech Sergeant so I don't have lots of money but if I can do anything else within reason like guaranteeing in writing to whoever gave me the files that I will under no circumstance give them out publicly or pass them on in any other fashion except to get some boards made locally.
Anyway thanks for replying I think the Grinch is a really great project and can't wait till I can put one together. I really want to do a few shows a year at my house using this controller & ssrs.
Sincerely
Jim

You could just draw it up in some pcb software and produce your own gerbers. It is a very easy board. :)

If I were a bit more skilled at it I would try. I think I would be assured of a good board if I used a proven file. If I did it I would inevitably leave somthing out or get the spacing for the Jack wrong and not notice it till I hade the boards made and wast my 200 dollars.
Thanks for the idea. If no one here will share then I guess I will have no option but to try it my self.
Thanks again
Jim

Whats the issue with just buying em from wjohn? He will probably be able to supply them faster than your local board shop and probably cheaper if your only getting a few made.

No Issue with getting them from john in fact I have ordered 2 from him. I always want to have a backup LOL.
The reason I want a copy of the gerber files is actually 2 fold. It's nice to have a source file for the boards if I should get a short run of them made here but also it would make it really easy for me to make a modified board if I decide to do some tinkering on my own.
As I have said my aim is not to cause anyone any grief over the issue. Quite the contrary as the design is Open Source sort of I just thought it would not be a big deal to get them. If it is then I'm really sorry I posted such a sensitive question and would ask that the MODs here just delete this thread in it's entity.
Have a great Holiday Season every one.

I don't think that anyone is particularly upset over the question.
It's pretty much the same situation as with source code. The source code for Vixen is kept more or less private for whatever reasons the author has. The source code for some of the controller firmware is kept private, and some is open source (again, for various reasons). Some people release the .hex object files for their controller firmware, others don't. That's just the way that it is.

john, i wasnt wanting to cause greif either. i was just thinking from a logistical point of view that i couldnt see the point.
Also as smeone else has said. if you want the boards grab some PCB software and draw it up. the board isnt a hard one to make and it would probably be a good learning exersise.

THanks bunch for sending off the boards. I can't wait to get them. THe day they arrive I'll order the gear from Mouser & Allegro. (Already have one set of IC coming.)

Thanks for the input. If I do decide to do a mod for the board I will probably just draw one up from scratch. Doesn't hurt if you can get a jump start though :)
To everyone here have a great Holiday. I'll post my results when I get at least one of the boards together or if I have any trouble (crosses fingers) sooner.

Thanks for your input as well. I understand how parts are and parts are not open source. I would have thought the boards would be as they are posted all over the net. :) but it really makes no difference. I'll just buy them from John when I need more.
As Scorpia said if I do decide to do some mods I'll just break out my CAD program and draw one up. It's all for fun and the pleasure of doing the project anyway.
I'll post more when I start building.
Till then ...
