Well this year is still a static display for mee. but my first at making a mega tree. 11' tall. 8ft diameter. and also some other stuff i am going to make.

Here is my mega tree. I used a satellite tripod with the regular small pole in it then added an 8ft fence pole, larger diameter on top. There is about a 2ft overlap. I drilled a hole in the fence pole so i can tighten it to the smaller pole. The tripod is anchored to the ground with 6x 1ft rods. Where the strings lace over the top, it is ghetto rigged. with chain link fence attachmentsso they are not coming off easy at all. I used 12 strings of 100mini's

Let me know what you think, and what I could have done different.

I think it looks great, zoom!

I think when you get into these, it's mostly personal preference. I think it's a good thing to share what you've done so that others may get ideas for making their own.

Great work Zoom, my biggest fear (and the reason why I havent attempted one) is stability but your pole looks quite stable, keep up the good work

When you start animating it that tripod base could be fun to make it look like a minitree (different channels) for part of the song and then wow 'em with the big one part way through.

how do you guys attach the lights to the ground?

Great idea for the mini tree part for the tripod legs. That would look cool!

Thats a really nice Mega Tree. Well done.
That will look even better once you animate it.
Watch out once you start you'll never stop. That Blinky Flashy Bug will get you!!!

Keep up the good work.

I use some old two prong stakes from some donated yard decorations. I don't even know what they are from but they are shaped like an h. Just push em into the ground and use a zip tie about 2 inches before the first set of bulbs. Now mines only 10' high, 4 colors each channel. But four Christmas light wires zip tied every 6" seems to be strong enough. It's windy right now.

I made a pvc ring and used T's and pipe to make stands. You have to drive some rebar or pipe in the ground to slide them over, then drill and pin them with coat hanger wire to keep the ring down.
