I downloaded this picture from Mudsculptor and am wanting to put it on a 4 x 2 foot banner. I sent it to the sign store and they say that it needs to be higher resolution as it gets pixelated once they blow it up... Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks,

Brad

I can mess with it tonight. Might be able to get it where you need it.

That file is 72 dpi (dots per inch), and a fairly small file size, so there isn't much to work with. For this resolution, it would be a 10"x6.67". That's decent for a screen or the web, but not usually for printing.

If you blow it up to 4' (48") wide, you are going to end up with 15 dpi. That essentailly a 1/16" grid, each filled in with a different color. What you are asking to do in take that 1/16" grid, and make it smaller. There are programs out there that can do that, but if you are looking for crisp lines from up close, I think you are going to be disappointed. You'll probably need a higher resolution image to start with.

Also, keep in mind that the higher the resolution, the larger the file, so it may be difficult to post the image.

Can you find out what resolution (in dpi) the sign maker uses, and if they have a minimum?

All that, being said, I'll see what I can do with it. Just wanted to let you know up front that you aren't going to get great results.

It is not perfect, but here is what I came up with....

Perhaps Mudsculptor can give you his highest resolution copy of it?
