I am wanting to post some "danger" signs in my yard to warn people about high voltage (to avoid liability issues, etc). I found many pre-printed signs for sale on the web, but I was wanting to print my own so I could customize it and to reduce costs. Some of those signs are pricy (~ $20 each).

I was going to try to make my own artwork, but I found a web site that allows you to quickly and easily customize and print signs from their library of artwork. In case anyone else is interested in doing so, the web site is MySafetySign.com. There is a link about halfway down on the left side.

Disclaimer: I am not associated in any way with this organization; I just wanted to pass along the tip about printing your own sign from their artwork.

Attached is an example that I made. I'm planning to sandwich it between a couple of pieces of plexiglass, shine a light on it, etc.

"at all times" is a good addition. I think I'll add that to mine. Thanks!

Be careful about your signs. Depending where you live it could be dangerous for you to put out danger signs. I know in this liberal State of NY there have been people who have been sued after their dog bites someone. One of the reasons the defendants lost more than usual was because they had "Beware of Dog" signs posted. In the eyes of the court this meant the owners were aware they had a "dangerous" dog. And so they were more liable because of that knowledge, even though the signs were put up to keep away burglars. So in this mindset if you put out signs like that you may be acknowledging you have a dangerous situation in your yard and did nothing to correct it. So you would be more liable if someone gets hurt.

Just some food for thought.

If you still want something official looking, I can cut a decal out of vinyl 12" x 12" for $10 shipped. (both red and black) I could do a bigger sign too.

Would this be the same thinking for a commercial store that puts up :Caution wet floor" signs after an employee has mopped.

Maybe a "Caution High voltage in use" sign would not be looked at with such disdain as a "Danger high Voltage" :-}

Possibly. I am not sure but maybe if there is a Lawyer in the house....

I'm not a lawyer, but having spent many years in major retail, my take would be that you are in a much better position if you post signs to alert people to a possible hazard than not. If it was suspected that you were aware of a possible hazard and did nothing, that could appear to be negligent. However, IMHO, I believe that most of us would be using these signs to deter vandalism and theft rather than an actual shock hazard............... just my 2 cents...........

Personally if I saw a "Danger High Voltage" sign at a christmas lights display, I'd turn tail and leave. First thought would be "what the . . . . I could get electrocuted by just being here?", kinda like what Brian said about the dog, the owner knows it's dangerous but put it up anyway? I'd be more inclined to put up a sign that says "Please do not touch the lights", amounts to the same message but sounds a little bit more friendly and less industrial. ;)

Good to see people being safe though!

People have static displays up every year and post no signs. Funny how we all think that just because we've joined the ranks of people who have more that our audience will suddenly forget how they are powered.

I would put myself in the group of those who might be more likely to post a sign to keep out vandals but who am I kidding.

Good point. I was assuming that some visitors are more likely to go up close and look at an animated display sync'ed to music than a static display. Maybe security lights and PIR or alarm system is more effective than posting DANGER signs.

Inexpensive signs"

Tons of places to download and print 8 1/2 x 11 signs. But they are just on paper. So hear is what I do. 1 Roll of clear contact paper. I cut it into squares slightly larger than the page. Peel the backing off one sheet, lay the paper sign carefully on the sticky side of the contact paper. Bam. Now take the second peice, peel the backing off and carefully press this down over the back of the paper. Run them tight. You can even iron them if you want. Then what I do is set it up on the paper cutter and trim it even just 1/8 larger than the paper.
You can get 20 -30 signs out of a $2.50 roll of contact paper.
