View Full Version : Matrix setup in xLights

Hi all. So I have a matrix which is 23 pixels in width and 15 pixels in height. When I set this up in XLights the up and down looks ok but the left and right animations are completely out. So they are wired up as one string so I'm guessing its a setup problem as the test pattern and chase works okay. I have just used a standard snake layout as shown below.

There is no easy way to configure this in XLights other than a custom model unless we specify it as bigger than it really is and you live with the fact that the last 3 strings on the screen do not really exist.

That config is 2 strings. 555 nodes per string. 15 strands per string. Start top left.

If your first string was 14 strands per string then XLights could have modelled it.

so I should just do a custom model and fill in the boxes with the numbers below?

Create two matrices, lay them out one right above the other in the layout screen, put them into a model group, and then sequence to the model group rather than the individual half-matrices.

so That config is
1 string 555 nodes per string. 15 strands per string. Start top left.
and
1 string 444 nodes per string. 12 strands per string. Start top left.

The downside of 2 matrices in a group is text will not work well when added to the group. It will work ok on the individual matrices.

I had not paid close attention to the text aspect before or it just doesn't affect me enough. I saw the github ticket and tip of the day and it makes sense.

I have 3 P10 matrices in a group but mainly use them individually or for graphics. I did notice a difference in the text when viewed earlier today though.

I have two matrix boards setup as individual ones, but when i put the animation for the group it didnt work very well, so what I might do is created another matrix that is the size of both the panel and use that for various animations. Re answer above you would have to use a custom model which is the route I first took before getting the answer.
